A 1997 movie directed by Tom Shadyac
I have seen this movie many times. It was sort of my theme for my college years. Each of the four characters in The Rules of Attraction can be found in each college student I think. The main character is Sean Bateman, who from the book that inspired the film is Patrick Bateman's (American Psycho) little brother. Sean is a drug dealer who is just barely making it through college. He's in love with a girl named Lauren. There is a suicide scene, interesting split screen camera tricks throughout the movie and some extremely funny parts all mixed into this movie that lacks any dull moments. The Rules of Attraction is a comedy, a very dark comedy but a comedy none the less. I work in an emergency room and there are times when I wish I could do what the nurse does when they bring in Harry to the ER. You will also see Fred Savage from the Wonder Years on cocaine, which is delightful and funny! Once you have seen this movie you will also have a barrage of one liners you can use with your friends. As with most movies that were inspired by books, this movie was no where near as good as its book, but is a good movie none the less.
