The Satanic Rites of Dracula was the last of the Hammer "Dracula" series. Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee reprise their roles of Van Helsing and Count Dracula once last time together. The last descendant of Professor Van Helsing is trying to put Count Dracula out for good, A satanic cult has awaken the undead vampire and they treat him as their new master. The old count is laying low and trying to run the world through financial power. Van Helsing's daughter (Joanna Lumley) is the latest to fall under the persuasive spell of the Count. Her beau and Pop's try their best to shut down the Count and his ghoulish gang. Can Professor Van Helsing and his reluctant assistant do the job or will the Count finally achieve his goal of ruling the world?
Not as bad as people have made it out to be. This was the final run for the duo of Cushing and Lee as a Hammer films team. They've acted together for a good number of years and were perfect as rivals. Perhaps the series could have ended with a bigger bang than this one. Oh well, it's better than having them go out like a bunch of chumps. A prequel of sorts was produced by Hammer and Shaw Brothers. The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires was to have starred Cushing and Lee for one last hurrah but Lee declined to play Dracula for one last time.
Recommended for Hammer aficionados.
