I was flipping through the free On Demand movies and came across Toolbox Murders HD and thought I would give it a try - after all it was free (it was directed by the man who did Texas Chainsaw Massacre so I wasn't sure about this one!) but I really was surprised that I was not disappointed.
Steven and his wife Tess move into an old apartment building; he is in Medical School and is working in the ER as an intern, so he's not home much. But his wife hears unexplained screams from the neighbors through the thin walls. The landlord is not much help as he attributes all the noise to "the charm of the building" - Tess calls the police 2 times because of the horror she hears but nothing is to be found and the police very nicely think she's overreacting.
In this movie you have a boy next door who spies on Tess' neighbor with his computer, an off-the-wall girl right next door with an abusive boyfriend, an old man who has lived in the building for over 40 years, a handyman who is freaky looking, and some more odd characters.
Anyway, the neighbors are getting killed with power tools; a power drill through the head, a nail gun in the throat, and much more so it could be a little gruesome but without too much to wanna make you puke. Now it's up to Tess to find out what's going on when her neighbors turn up missing and no one believes her. She also realizes that each floor has no apartment #4, which is strange indeed.
If you like suspense, this movie has it; it was not too ridiculous as some thrillers can be, and the grossness I would rate at about a 3; not too much but enough to make you want to leave your toolbox the hell alone.

It wasn't bad--although our red herring is so obviously a red herring!
Great review, this Tobe Hooper film is actually a remake from a film in 70's I believe. I also liked this film but I will admit now that I am a fan of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre films, maybe because I live in Texas now. Any way great review.

Thank you -- you're a fan of the Chainsaw Massacre films huh? You're braver than I am!!
OMG - I couldn't take that movie at all - and I was dumb enough to watch the second one too (hey, I was forced by friends and it was a peer pressure thing) and was a nervous wreck--I needed a Valium after that one LOL
You had me with your closing line; grossness...I like it! LOL! I wonder, is murder by super-glue is possible or even duct tape? he-heh. Very nice find, Brenda!

LOL - I don't know about the super glue, but I will NOT allow my husband to come near me with a nail gun!! LOL Thanks for the comment hunni.
That's right; we won't say a word about the super glue thoughts running through your head!! LOL

Woo - You seem like the type that would have something extra up your sleeve (or in your socks) LOL

Aerin - I think I may have to get an extra tube just in case I need to shut my hubbie's piehole - this is a MUST HAVE for some of us women!! Thanks for the idea!!

Awwww-----good one Aerin!! LOL Nothing worse than a keyboard with fungus among us!! Woo - you started something funny here.....
I've threatened the hubby with many horrific things (I can't mention them here unfortunately!) but the super glue is one I had not thought of; I guess I am more sadistic when I think of what I'd like to do him and something simple never crossed my mind.......

ok...this begining to sound like a comedian's corner LOL!
Butterfly1961July 22, 2010
You're right - I need to look through my drawers some more LOL

Hell Woo - this is better than the movie that started all this comedy!! LOL Maybe we should rate us!!
woopak_the_thrillJuly 22, 2010
