A great-loved musical which was a breakthrough in colorization. Made by people who were either very, very high or expected their audiences to be.

Not even remotely close to being faithful to the book but it doesn't matter, does it, with catchy-ass tunes, an unforgettable cast and fantasy beyond the rainbow of imagination.

One of the foundations to my vivid imagination. Has possibly every element in a tall tale that is closer to life than one can imagine. I have watched it more than any other movie in my life!

This movie is a classic for a reason. I have discovered as well than on of the best formats in which to watch it is during a local summer movie festival in a park.

This movie was made in 1939, which certainly makes it a classic vintage film. There are some variations from the book in the film that are interesting to note. Read the book and watch the film and you'll have fun  comparing the two versions.

The greatest American film, the first true classic fantasy film, and the most beloved family film of all time! A virtually perfect film. Flying monkeys, gay lions, fraudulent wizards, and Gothic castles. What's not to love?! : )

Even as a jaded adult I can still enjoy the movie The Wizard of Oz. When I was a kid, each year it came on I eagerly anticipated watching it. The story of Dorothy transported to the strange Oz and her encounters with the munchkins, the Wicked Witch of the West, the Tinman without a heart, the Scarecrow without a brain, and the Lion without Courage and their ultimate quests to find the Wizard in Emerald city against in the face of the Wicked Witch continue to be magical.     The …

What a joy to see this classic film in the DVD format, accompanied by so much interesting background material which includes the documentary "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: The Making of a Movie Classic," hosted by Angela Lansbury; various out takes, including the rarely seen "Jitterbug" dance; interviews of Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, and Margaret Hamilton; and excerpts from previous versions of "Oz," including the 1914 and 1925 silent films and the 1933 cartoon version. Great stuff! How ironic that this …
