[edit] Synopsis

In Europe, a group of American college athletes unknowingly board a train that will become one deadly ride.

Todd (Derek Magyer) and his friends are representing Team USA in a wrestling match in Europe. In the fight, Todd pins down his opponent while Alex (Thora Birch), his girlfriend, has lost her match. In the shower room, Todd is invited by his opponent as a peace offering since Team USA has lost in the overall standing; he rejects the invitation, but Sheldon (Kavan Reece) takes the invitation card upon learning that women there love American men.

In the hotel, Coach Harris (Todd Jensen) reminds everyone in the team about their departure time to Odessa at 0700 and asks everyone to be at the train station by 0630. The coach then sends everyone back to their hotel rooms. Alex has switched room with Sheldon, to be with her boyfriend Todd, while Sheldon ends up with Alex’s roommate Claire (Gloria Votsis). Todd teaches Alex of his own moves to win a wrestling match. Afterward, Todd, Alex, Claire, and Sheldon decide to go to the party. As they sneak out of the hotel room, they are caught by Willy (Gideon Emery) who is smoking a joint outside the hotel. Willy decides to join them in the party. Upon getting there, Todd and Sheldon are pulled aside by two women who want to perform fellatio upon them. Todd quickly pulls his pants back up and says he cannot do it, leaving Sheldon on his own. Todd then goes back to Alex, he tells her that they should go back already. But before leaving, Todd ends up fighting the guy, who has invited him there.

They have arrived late in the station and have missed the train. Everyone in their team has left already except for the coach, who has waited and scolded them. The coach has difficulty purchasing train tickets to Odessa, as the lady behind the ticket counter does not speak English. A woman named Dr. Velislava (Koina Ruseva) approaches him and explains that train tickets are normally purchased after one has boarded the train to Odessa. The coach and team members join her in boarding the train. Two workers from the train have accompanied them to their rooms and have taken their passports. It is seen in the following scene that the two workers burn the American athletes' passports. Aboard, Todd talks to Sheldon about missing his chance of joining the professional leagues. Meanwhile, Alex and Claire are talking about the two nasty train workers.

At supper time, the coach is joined by the doctor. He thanks her for telling him about the train. The two then go to the coach’s room to have sex, but the intention of the doctor is different – she has injected the coach with a tranquilizer. In the following scene, the coach is seen being stitched in the abdomen area as he shouts for help, his tongue is then cut out by the annoyed big guy.

Meanwhile, Todd and the others are playing Truth or Dare in the other room. Willy dares Todd to run naked to the back of the train.

[edit] Background

The film was originally set to be a remake of the 1980 horror Terror Train, which starred Jamie Lee Curtis.[2]

The film was shot on location in Bulgaria.[3] However, it later evolved into an original project, sharing only the setting of a train. Train was voted 6 times to be the most disturbing film ever made.[4] And the film is 96 minutes running time, but 27 minutes of it were not included, containing sexually explicit acts and disturbing views for almost anyone. Train is also the film (as of now) to have used the largest quantity of red liquid (as Blood): 87 Liters.[5]

[edit] Release

In the USA it was released first with its NC-17 cut (the highest age classification in the USA) in October at the Screamfest Festival according to the website Bloody Disgusting. It was acquired by Lionsgate to trim the movie to an R rating (second highest age classification) for its commercial distribution.[6]
