The grandfather of the slasher genre.

Twitch of the Death Nerve is the granddaddy of all the slasher films.  This is the movie that inspired Friday the 13th and it's numerous copycats. Mario Bava wanted to make a cinema spectacle. 13 deaths staged in front of the camera in a gruesome macabre fashion. The movie revolves around a piece of very expensive real estate and the Family members participating in a bloody melee trying to own the rights of the beautiful and expensive lakeside property. A popular theme in Bava's work is the decadence in the upper crust of society. What these money hungry sharks wont do for a piece of expensive real estate. Bava has created a horror masterpiece. One that has truly weathered time and murder has never looked so glamorous.

Many of the kills in this film were recycled in the first three Friday the 13th films.  Such as the machete to the face, a couple being speared in bed, a close up of a decapitation.  Christopher Lee who worked with Bava on the film The Whip and the Body was so offended by this movie's content that he walked out halfway through the film.  If you enjoy the slasher genre or a fan of giallos then you'll want to watch this one.
