Not since 'Deliverance' has a creepier movie come from a setting in the Deep South. 'Undertow' has a drive and tension with a minimalist of Hollywood effects. There aren't any huge highway chase scenes or urban gymnastics. What 'Undertow' does is work its way through the vortex of its descriptive title by developing a terse development and a sense of danger with all the players working through tangibly tragic desperation.
