Continuing on with things, yet they all have that familiar feel.

Judgment Day 2009 carries over a few new storylines taking place with familiar match ups, with the only exception being CM Punk vs. Umaga. Most of these superstars have all crossed paths one time or another on ppv. The most notable feud which was Edge vs. Jeff Hardy picked up where it left off at the Royal Rumble. Overall, the purpose of this event was to push storylines, and it's actually a fairly good event.

1) CM Punk vs. Umaga

Great way to open up the show. The event took place in Chicago. So what better way to open up than with the hometown native CM Punk? The crowd was heavily behind Punk, which made the match better than what it was. This was a typical big man vs. little man bout, and when these matches usually involved the late 350lb. Umaga, you already knew what to expect.

Umaga dominated for awhile with Punk trying in vain to drop him with his best attacks. Punk delivered some very sharp kicks while Umaga kept the match high impact. Umaga's best matches have mainly been against smaller guys, and they tell a real good story trying to take him down. This match was no different. 3.5/5

2) ECW Championship
Christian(C) vs. Jack Swagger

Despite taking place in CM Punk's hometown, it still came as a shock this match wasn't the opening bout. ECW matches almost always opened up the show.

The story coming into this bout was: Could Christian pull off a clean victory on the larger Jack Swagger? This match had to be one of the best displays of speed & experience vs. strength & inexperience, I've seen in quite some time. Christian played cat and mouse with his opponent for awhile and took advantage of his mistakes. Too bad the crowd really didn't buy too much into this style of smart wrestling. This generation is way too driven by the over the top spot fest. This was a good match with a very creative ending, but it doesn't beat their previous encounter. 3.5/5

3) Shelton Benjamin vs. John Morrison

These two developed a brief feud over the past few weeks leading up to this. But I didn't quite get the logic. As a matter of fact, I'll say it was completely lacking logic. Morrison was being built up to be a babyface that the crowd can get behind. But it wasn't going to happen if his opponent was Shelton Benjamin. Benjamin never really had the star power or the heel heat to make anybody, despite being very talented in the ring. Why Morrison's opponent wasn't The Miz right after they had a falling out is something I'll never know.

Still, based on their past match history, one knew this was going to be a fun match. You will see some great athleticism here despite the slight miscue very early. The match had some good mat wrestling and the finish got the crowd somewhat behind Morrison. But I didn't believe anyone was sold on him yet. He was an arrogant heel with a bit of heat for a very long time. 3.5/5

After this match, a segment takes place featuring The Miz. He spews a bit of venom at his former partner Morrison. But the city of Chicago, along with the Cubs, and Alfonso Soriano receive the full burst, and it gets better when a certain mid card comedy act makes his way to the ring. Normally, I skip segments like this, but it's too funny to recommend skipping.

4) Intercontinental Championship
Rey Mysterio(C) vs. Chris Jericho

Before the match, Jericho cut an awesome promo which proved further just how great a talker and heel he has always been. This match kind of brought back memories of their old WCW(World Championship Wrestling) match ups. Very quick paced with lots of finisher counters and reversals. They put together a wrestling clinic. This is the best match you will see until the main event. Some guys I know consider this to be match of the night. I thought so as well at one point. 4.5/5

5) WWE Championship
Randy Orton(C) vs. Batista

I knew the outcome to this bout before I ordered the ppv. Simply because of how early the match was on the card, and considering who the champion was coming in. It became almost a guarantee and it was.

Batista was hell bent on getting payback because Orton side lined him for four months, and he played his role pretty well as always. The match wasn't really great because Orton and Batista really aren't great to begin with. They got in most of their signature moves and the match was interesting. But Orton plays on the cowardly heel that will do anything to keep the title. The ending was no surprise but the aftermath was. 3.25/5

6) Big Show vs. John Cena

It's obvious that creative never realized that these two together were never magic, for the simple fact they continued to feud after this. Only a select few can bring out the best in Big Show, and the same goes for Cena. Together, they have always been the recipe for disaster.

This match was no different and it was very boring. Cena was heavily selling his injuries from Backlash. So the Big Show dominated most of this, until the Superman type ending occurred, which seriously didn't do a thing to elevate this feud. I got the purpose of it and it was still cheap. 1.5/5

7) World Heavyweight Championship
Edge(C) vs. Jeff Hardy

A very solid main event that I appreciated more on my second watch, and was the match of the night for me. I liked the way they built the feud around their history. Speaking on how they both came into the company around the same time, and Edge always took advantage of his opportunities while Jeff botched most of his. This was a feud done right.

The match was slow and methodical, which was something strange from these two. They used a good amount of ground wrestling, some high risk, and eventually hit the floor using tactics that made them popular. This was another bout meant to put over the storyline and prolong the feud. The match was still unpredictable until that wild finish. 4.5/5

Overall, Judgement Day 2009 is a solid event. Most of these feuds continued into the next event which was Extreme Rules, but that's a review for another day. Still, I recommend this event as a rental at least.

Pros:
-Rey & Jericho bring their A game, the main event also delivered

Cons:
-One terrible match, most are average

HEY whatever happened to Rakishi? Is he the same as Umaga?

Rikishi is Umaga's older brother, and he was in TNA for awhile. Umaga died almost two years ago.
