A few stand outs on this weak event.

This is pretty much where WWE fell into a slump for 09. They delivered another event that wasn't even average, and after such a very promising beginning to start 09. But in all honesty, I didn't expect a great event to begin with. Since WWE had been pretty much dropping the ball with The Great American Bash(now calledThe Bash) ever since its addition to their ppv line up. And to make matters worst, once again Randy Orton and Triple H headlined another event with another gimmick match. This rivalry had gotten stale way before this point.

One match that really had me scratching my head since the day it was announced, was John Cena vs. The Miz. I found it hard to believe anyone could have possibly been looking forward to this train wreck. But, looking at the bright side of things, at least Rey Mysterio and Chris Jericho delivered a spectactular match for the third straight time.

1)Scramble Match for the ECW Championship
Tommy Dreamer(C) vs. Mark Henry vs. Jack Swagger vs. Finlay vs. Christian

Rules:
-Two superstars start in the ring
-Every three minutes a new supertar enters
-If a superstar scores a pinfall or submission, he becomes the current champion
-The superstar who is champion by the end of the alloted time, becomes the official champion

An excellent opener that did its job for me. The purpose of this match is to put the champion in a very tight spot, since he doesn't have to be pinned to lose his title. Plus, a 5 minute time limit begins when the final superstar enters the match.

Every man got a chance to shine and pulled his own weight. Finlay brought his very aggressive mat base style wrestling, and put quite a hurting on the younger guys. The commentators were quick to mention Henry was never pinned in the last Scramble match that took place at Unforgiven 08. The addition of Mark Henry in this Scramble Match worked very well once again. Matches like these are when Henry's at his best because the focus isn't only on him, since his very slow pace can bring down a match. Outside of a slight miscue, the spots were very nice and the final minutes were definitely the best. I was actually surprised by who walked away the winner. 4.25/5

2)Intercontinental Championship Match
Chris Jericho(C) vs. Rey Mysterio

The only problem I have with this match is the title vs. mask stipulation. If Rey loses, then he must unmask. WWE must have been slipping since they were blowing life into the lungs of a decade old storyline like this, because Rey lost his mask before back in the old WCW(World Championship Wrestling) atSuperbrawl IX in 1999. Ignoring the fact he already lost his mask once. I would like to know who actually bought into this storyline anyway. Rey Mysterio is a marketing juggernaut, the kids and grown ups in the audience sporting his mask are proof. There was no possible way WWE could have been so dumb as to force Rey to unmask forever. Rey's mask brings in the profits, a defeat like that was not going to happen.

However, the match was awesome. Just simply awesome. Excellent athleticism that resulted in a wrestling clinic that I'm sure can reach classic status. Lots of groundbase and aerial wrestling complete with finisher counters and kick outs. This was also their third straight ppv encounter, and they managed to keep the match fresh. Plus, deliver a great ending yet again. The last rivalry to pull off at least three great matches in a row, was Undertaker vs. Edge during 2008. In any case, Match of the Night for me, plus second best ppv match of that year. Right behind Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker of Wrestlemania 25. 5/5

3)The Great Khali vs. Dolph Ziggler

This match was no DQ(Disqualification). I really didn't care for the build up leading to this one. I like Ziggler and I still think he has potential, but I would never look forward to a Khali match. Surprisingly, the match wasn't horrible. The no DQ rule was used to full effect, and the match was mainly meant to put over the arrogant Ziggler, as a heel who would do anything to get the W. If it wasn't because this match set up another feud, it would have been a complete waste of time, because Ziggler's "do anything to win" heel character was already established before this. But in retrospect, I should actually rate this one a lot lower. Since the feud that was spawned from this turned out being the worst of 2009 without a doubt. 2.5/5

4)Unified Tag Team Championship Match
Carlito & Primo(C) vs. Ted Dibiase & Cody Rhodes vs. Edge & Chris Jericho

Several events took place during the event involving General Manager Teddy Long, Edge, and Jericho. Vince McMahon had been threatening Teddy with firing him, unless he found a way to shake things up to relieve his boredom. So at the last minute, Teddy announces the tag match as a triple threat by adding Edge and Jericho into the mix.

This was a very good bout that saw some excellent offense from Carlito and Primo most notably. But, the comedic highlight, was the two teams doing everything possible to keep Jericho and Edge out of the match. It was too funny at times but I saw that ending a mile away. 4/5

5)Women's Championship Match
Melina(C) vs. Michelle McCool

McCool attempts to be the first female to win both the Women's and Diva's Championships. Around this time, I really didn't care for McCool's push at all, and I considered her to be insanely over rated. But I always gave her credit for trying to be something other than eye candy. The two mixed up pretty well to deliver a somewhat decent match. However, this match was meant to push their rivalry, and they would go on to continue feuding. 2.5/5

6)World Heavyweight Championship
CM Punk(C) vs. Jeff Hardy

Continuing their feud that began at the previous ppv Extreme Rules, and had carried on for weeks. Jeff was dead set on winning back the title, after Punk took it in screw job fashion. The build up coming into this bout was done pretty well, and I was actually looking forward to this one considering both superstars track records. A majority of the time, Jeff seems to be at his best when he's going for the title. However, this was not one of those times at all.

This match really disappointed me. It was way too spotty for my taste, and I was bored almost the entire time. It consisted of both guys hitting their trademark moves. But, the only purpose this match served was to push Punk's heel turn that wasn't quite over with the fans yet. Even the aftermath was boring with Hardy "connecting" with a flurry of phantom punches. This match only succeded in pushing the storyline, which was Punk's heel turn. 3/5

7)John Cena vs. The Miz

People should not have been put in a position to pay for this. This match did not belong on ppv for no reason. The storyline coming into the bout made it feel a lot more important than what it really was. The Miz called out Cena for weeks and he finally responded. Cena commenced giving Miz a "wrestling lesson", displaying some of the poorest technical wrestling I have seen since Sable was performing in womens matches, and yes, I went there. I mean this match was pathetic from bell to bell. Overall, this was nothing more than a squash, a very bad squash with memorable moments for all of the wrong reasons. 1/5

8)3 stages of Hell Match for the WWE Championship
Randy Orton(C) vs. Triple H

The 3 stages of Hell, is a 2 out of 3 falls match, with each match having its own stipulation.

1st fall-Regular one fall bout: Decided by pinfall, submission, count out, or DQ.

2nd fall-Falls Count anywhere: A superstar can be pinned or forced to submit anywhere in the building.

3rd fall-Stretcher Match: A superstar must be beaten to the point where he's put on a stretcher and dragged to a designated point.

This was the third 3 stages of Hell match, with the last one being 7 years ago by this point in time. By this time, Triple H had competed in all three, with him winning the first two, defeating both Stone Cold Steve Austin at No Way Out 2001 & Shawn Michaels at Armageddon 2002. When compared to the previous two, this match just isn't even in the same league.

I didn't like this match when I first saw it. But I ended up appreciating it a little more over time. The bout was mainly a stretcher match with the first two falls decided almost immediately. When watching the events unfold, it was perfect logic. The match had some brutal moments with lots of chair shots, and action outside of the ring. But, these two have had better gimmick matches than this. Their Last Man Standing Match on free TV before this was far better. Overall, the match was decent, but I felt the ending took away from it, and these two continued to feud. 3.25/5

I recommend this event for a rental at the very best. The IC Championship is definitely a must see, plus I found the Scramble Match to be good fun. But if you can some how download the IC match. I recommend doing that since it's the only must see on the card.

Pros:
-Jericho vs. Mysterio, ECW Scramble Match

Cons:
-Disappointing main events yet again, a couple of matches were too predictable, Cena vs. Miz

I rented this sometime back. The Great Khali is intimidating, but he turns out boring as he moves so slowly. I wish we can find someone as big as Khali and as nimble as the Taker one day. WWE needs one....
