Weathermen Undergroud Exposed

  • Jun 30, 2004
Pros: Well ordered, good footage and background

Cons: Wasted lives, twisted logic of terrorists, sad to watch

Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot.

Rented this one at the local video store and got what I expected. It's a documentary about the famous militant Weatherman Underground and their exploits until the group disbanded in the mid 1970's.

Originally, the Students for Democratic Society was the best of the New Left on American college campuses. Disillusioned and enraged by the continuing carnage in Vietnam, racial and social inequalities, the group split and the Weatherman were born. The Weatherman were a hardline terrorist group that wanted to bring revolution to the streets and bring the war home.

It is chilling when compared with the tragedies of 9/11. Wonderful footage of the "Days of Rage" and when compared with current interviews of the now middle aged and grey revolutionaries. Most have no regrets about resorting to violence and are still defiant.

In hindsight, they were comical, amaterish, and childish in their logic, safe houses and blowing up offices. As with the SLA, Black Panthers and other revolutionary groups fashionable during the late 1960's and early 1970's, when the revolution did not come - it was a supreme disappointment.

The documentary makes no judgement calls, and is a revealing look behind the "revolution".
