Fear is fronted by sometime actor Lee Ving. Formed during the late 70's, Fear is one of the first punk bands to regularly perform in California. Ving's right-wing lyrics my seem to be tounge-in-cheek considering the majority of the bands in this ear were left of center. His personnel views have led to several changes in the band's line-up over the years. The current incarnation of Fear has only Lee Ving as it's only original member. I remember seeing them on SNL on the Comedy Channel performing a couple songs. A bunch of slam dancers were involved in their short set.
The band recorded a few albums. Fear the Album is still considered their best disc. They landed a record deal after appearing in the film The Decline of the Western Civilization (I wish it was released on DVD) and were one of the highlights of the film (Lee Ving's banter with the audience is priceless). Sadly they never caught one with the mainstream audience. During Fear's downtime Lee Ving appeared in several films such as Clue, Streets of Fire, Flashdance and Dudes. They might not be for everyone but Fear's fast tunes, interesting lyrics and Ving's vocals make them one of the more unique bands that came out of the 70's west coast punk scene.
