We're far from being stars Because stars fall And disintegrate before they hit the asphalt.
I love Jurassic 5!
1999, I bought my first car. A humble and meek VW Jetta. Nothing really big to brag about. No bling, no rims.. just four tires getting me back and forth from school. Speakers hissed and the windows rattled, but I didn't care.
That's because the first CD I've ever played in my car... on my very first stereo... was Jurassic 5.
I played all their songs... well, at least all the ones that were out. Improvise, Concrete Schoolyard, LAUSD. It was a time when hip hop wasn't about *banging girls* or talking about your Poker Face. Hip hop wasn't young either... it matured from it's early beginnings and each city had it's own taste.
Jurassic 5 was LA's Hip Hop. Beats... sweet and mellow with careless lyrics. "The California sunkist with a twist of lime light."
J5 was a time when I was younger. When I was still in high school and my only troubles were how to pass a test, or if anyone would reply to my "16/m/818 asl?" in the chat rooms.
But now, J5 isn't the same. Cut Chemist left and started his own thing. The group hasn't been the same. I haven't been the same. Now it's all about "Brown Girl" and "Work it Out". The Concrete Schoolyard is now just a memory.
But every now and then, I'll put back that old CD... Sure, it's scratched up and skips a few times... but my memories fill in those gaps.

I LOVE J5 and yes, I even like their new stuff, I had bought their instrumentals on vinyl before I had heard the actual lyrics. How do you feel about Portable Payback?

I still listen to their new stuff, but I think Improvise and Power in Numbers are their best albums. Just googled on Portable Playback... I'll definitely check it out.
