Born Roger Keith Barrett. Founding member and leader of Pink Floyd. He came up with the band's name by combing the names of two Blues musicians Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. Wrote most of the first album and several singles before developing a serious LSD problem. He quit/fired during the recording of Saucerful of Secrets. Before he left he was replaced live by Dave Gilmour. After recording two solo studio albums and a few odds and ends tracks he went into reclusion. He emerged a few years later when his former bandmates were recording Shine on You Crazy Diamond. Syd walked into the studio overweight with all of his facial hair shaved off brushing his teeth. Several attempts were made to get him back into the studio to record some new tracks but to no avail.
The Damned tried to get Syd to produce their second album Music For Pleasure. They ended up with Nick Mason instead.
