Recession Works!

The Recession gave me a reason to enjoy Young Jeezy. It's a great album for driving and pumping up, and because of its topical nature, I feel that it's more broadly relatable. I never thought I'd be partial to the "YEEEEEAAAAHHHHS" of Jeezy, but given the concept of this album, I was able to focus on his flow instead of his calling cards.

The beats on this album are among the best of 2008. Don Cannon and Drumma Boy did some of my favorite production. It's Southern flavor comes through with songs like the horn driven, trudging march of "By The Way" by Houston producer T.A. There are also pop-R&B leaning tracks like "Takin' It There," featuring Trey Songz. If you generally like Southern hip hop and haven't heard it yet, check out "Amazing" and "Circulate."

I can't say I'm too into Jeezy. I have a friend that's a pretty big fan of him, but I seem to only really enjoy him when he has a huge synth background and interesting topics to work with. If everything Jeezy did was like "My President" or "Real as it Gets" (off Jay-Z's new album), I would probably be able to enjoy him much more.

Haha "the 'YEEEEEAAAAHHHHS' of Jeezy". I used to really like "Go Getta" (WOOOO R. KELLY)and "Thug Motivation 101" but sorta stopped listening after that. I should get back into him..maybe this album will help. Thanks for the review!
