Founded in 1982, Search for Common Ground works to transform the way the world deals with conflict - away from adversarial approaches and towards collaborative problem solving. We work with local partners to find culturally appropriate means to strengthen societies' capacity to deal with conflicts constructively: to understand the differences and act on the commonalities.

SFCG incorporates a wide variety of approaches, such as mediation and facilitation; radio and TV production; sports and arts based programming; community organizing; polling; shuttle diplomacy; training; and multiple news services. Thousands of people are directly involved in SFCG programs, and millions more are reached through the media. SFCG believes that it is most effective when integrating local indigenous practices of conflict prevention with international best practices. Accordingly, country programs work with local partners to strengthen their capacity to deal with conflict.

SFCG currently has or is developing programs in: Angola, Belgium, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, East Timor, Guinea, Indonesia, Iran, Kenya, Kosovo, Lebanon, Liberia, Macedonia, Jerusalem, Morocco, Nepal, Pakistan, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, the USA and Zimbabwe.
SFCG's vision is of a world in which individuals, communities, governments and societies deal with their conflicts in effective ways that stimulate social progress, rather than cause violence.
