I had to drive a few hours just to get to this place but based on what I've read and what my friend told me about this place, I knew it had to be worth it and as soon as I stepped into this place, it was confirmed.
There was BBQ smell everywhere and you could see where the food was prepared around the fire inside of the place. Outside, there were piles and piles of firewood.
I ended up ordering the combo recommended by one of the workers which included a sausage link, a brisket and a rib. I expected to pay at least 15 bucks for that amount but I was completely surprised when the total was just above 8 bucks. Incredible.
They wrap it up in brown paper and you take your food to the seating area where you can also get sides/drinks etc.
I'll never forget how good the food was. Usually BBQ is covered in BBQ sauce but the food here didn't need it. I can safely say this was one of the best meals I've ever had and in terms of taste/price ratio, I don't think it can be beaten. If i wanted the same quantity of BBQ back home here in LA, I would expect to pay almost 3 times the amount I paid at Smitty's.
So even though, this place was in the middle of nowhere and was a long drive, I'd definitely make the trip out there again if given the chance.
I also think that I'll forever compare any BBQ I eat to Smitty's.
