Drunk with power and ripe for defeat.

He is the poster child for everything that is wrong with American politics.  Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA) is a career politician who has been feeding at the public trough for his entire adult life.  As chairman of the powerful House Financial Services Committee Mr. Frank has been instrumental in ramming through such increasingly unpopular legislation as Health Care Reform, TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program) and the so-called American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (otherwise known as the “Stimulus” bill.)  He is an arrogant and uncompromising left-wing ideologue who has nothing but disdain for the law-abiding, hard-working American taxpayers who must foot the bill for these debacles.  Like so many of the other power brokers in Washington Congressman Frank believes that the laws he passes simply do not apply to him or his buddies on Capitol Hill. Now for the first time since he was elected to Congress in 1980 Barney Frank is facing a stiff challenge from a conservative Republican named Sean Bielat. While it is still considered to be something of a long shot there is a real possibility that Barney Frank could be swept out of office on November 2nd by the nationwide political tsunami that is building.  If Barney Frank can be taken out in Massachusetts then there is just no telling how many of his Democratic colleagues will be ousted with him.  It is a very tantalizing thought.

Just a few weeks ago the very idea that Barney Frank might be vulnerable would have been considered laughable. But Barney just might have met his match in his young Republican opponent Sean Bielat. As the election of Scott Brown proved earlier this year proved voters are looking for fresh faces and new approaches. Conservatives in the Bay State are mobilizing like never before. Even in the People’s Republic of Massachusetts voters are scared to death about their jobs and what the future holds for their children and grandchildren.  They are not at all happy about the direction our country is headed in.  I believe that Sean Bielat offers the voters of the Fourth Congressional District the kind of common sense change that they are seeking right now.  Mr. Bielat is a 35 year old self made ex-marine and businessman with an impressive resume.  According to his website Sean believes in “focusing in on economic growth and fiscal responsibility”.  He also believes in a “return to the Constitutional values and citizen-legislators” that our Founding Fathers favored.  There is no doubt that Sean Bielat would oppose President Obama and his radical left-wing agenda.  Clearly he is the very antithesis of Barney Frank and an extremely competent and attractive candidate.  In a press release dated October 12th the Tea Party Express announced that they have added Barney Frank to the list of lawmakers they are targeting in November’s mid-term elections.  Recall that the Tea Party Express was instrumental in Scott Brown’s victory over Martha Coakley in the U.S. Senate race back in January.  It could happen again.  In a statement given to CNN the Tea Party Express observed:  “Massachusetts voters proved they are sick and tired of liberal career politicians who are out of touch with the nation and it’s time to send Barney into retirement.”  Donations have been pouring into the Bielat campaign from concerned citizens around the country. What a thrill it would be to send Barney home to Massachusetts!  I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, our buddy Barney continues to be one of the most ethically challenged members of the House of Representatives. In an article in the Boston Herald on October 13th it was revealed that Frank flew to the Virgin Islands for a vacation in 2009 on a $25 million jet owned by Paloma Partners honcho S. Donald Sussman, the fiance of U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-Maine).  Paloma Securities — a subsidiary of Sussman’s Greenwich, Conn.-based hedge fund — received $200 million in 2009 as part of the $180 billion federal bailout of troubled insurance giant AIG, records show.”  I believe that this shows very poor judgment on his part. Perhaps this latest incident will be just enough to tip the scales in favor of the Republican challenger. And let’s not forget that the Congressman has also committed serious indiscretions in his personal dealings with a male prostitute.  This is certainly not the kind of person I would want my children to look up to.

But even if Barney Frank manages to squeak by and win re-election this time around the Democrats are being forced to spend valuable resources on a race that is ordinarily in the bag.  The voters in his district have put Barney on notice that they are paying attention now.  And in the process Sean Bielet has emerged as a very viable alternative to the veteran lawmaker.  While I am hopeful that Barney Frank can be defeated this year I believe that if does get re-elected and continues to pursue the same radical agenda he will finally be ousted in 2012.  The Tea Party movement has emerged as a significant force to be reckoned with in this country and I expect the momentum to continue to build as we head towards the 2012 Presidential election.

Drunk with power and ripe for defeat. Drunk with power and ripe for defeat. Drunk with power and ripe for defeat. Drunk with power and ripe for defeat.
