The best features of these cards - aside from convenience for both the sender and the recipient - are there is no hidden fee nor do these cards expire.
On the subject of hidden fees, I have purchased 'gift' cards in stores that are plastic, branded cards and many come with a built-in fee. Some never provide their own face value because a use fee is subtracted each time the recipient uses it. Not so these. You, the sender, pay the exact amount of the value of the card with no additional fees or premiums and the recipient can spend every penny.
I also love it that these never expire. If you send one today and the recipient decides to wait a decade before using it, the money is there. Not that such a scenario is likely.
As a sender this is a hassle free way to surprise someone, and you can schedule the card for up to a year in advance. Buy it, schedule it and it's automatically taken care of. You can also cancel s scheduled delivery if there is a reason to retract a gift. Note that you cannot cancel one that is sent out immediately. In all cases you will be notified with an email message letting you know that 'An Amazon.com Gift Card you sent has been received' when the recipient opens your card, and also you can check your orders which will also show the status. As of the date of this review one of the status descriptions is 'Redeemed', so you will know when the card has actually been used.
For those who receive this card it's equally convenient. I've gotten them from family and even Amazon itself and redeeming and using them are simple. There will be a 'Redeem Now' button on the card, which after clicking will add the amount to your gift card funds immediately. You can then use them by default for your next purchase. If you do not use the full amount, the remaining funds will be available for your next purchase.
Sometimes Amazon has dumb ideas, but this is not one of them. It's one of my favorite features on the site and one which I frequently use.
