Why would anyone get a netbook when you can get the 13.3 macbook pro?
Oct 31, 2009
I've been on the fence for a while now. I have an 24" iMac at home that my wife and I use as our home computer. The problem is is that the iMac has become my wife's go to computer and so now I don't have a lot of opportunities to use it anymore. I was thinking I should get something else to browse the internet, listen to music, edit photos, and just mess around with without worrying about screwing the computer that contains all our data. I was really looking at the netbooks for a while but at the end of the day, they're under powered and the screen is just a bit too small. I was thinking maybe a Dell or something similar but they tend to have problems and if it came down to it and I needed to take it somewhere, I would have to ship it in. The stars aligned when I found the Macbook Pro 13.3 2.26 ghz laptop on sale as a refurbished item on Apple.com. The nice thing about refurbs from Apple is they carry the same warranty as new and you can purchase apple care for them. I ended up swapping the hard drive and memory for upgrade after I got it because customizing an apple gets pricey really quick. Threw in a 500 GB drive and 4 gigs of memory.
Here is what I like: 1) Size - The size is perfect at 13.3 for being easy to view but super portable. It's super light and easy to carry around. Something I'll grab it like a book and carry it around since it's so light. 2) Battery Life - The battery life is a huge improvement over any other computer I've owned. I don't know if it's exactly seven hours but it's been more than enough without carrying my power cord around. 3) Screen - The screens on the Macbook are sick. So clear and bright. 4) Trackpad - Apple is leading the way with this technology. I don't even need a mouse anymore. 5) Keyboard - Really wide and easy to use. 6) Brick and Morter Store - I love that Apple has a brick and morter store that I can take the computer to if I have any problems. 7) Style - You can't deny the thing is a piece of art. 8) Unix based - Most virus' are designed for Windows so the Mac is less susceptible to the kinds of things a Windows machine is. You also get a console window for those might leverage that functionality.
Here is what I don't like: 1) The price - It is pricey but in the end the value to me justifies the price
As a general rule, the usability of Apple software and it's ability to update itelf makes me really appreciate the thought that goes into the design of this product.
For me the things I liked helped me to justify the price. I don't expect everyone to see things the way I do but that I had good reasons for buying it and paying the extra amount.
