I have 2 other models of Arkon vent mounts that I have used for many years for holding my cell phone and Pocket PC - and these have worked perfectly. So when I bought the Arkon GN047 Vent Mount for my Nuvi, I had high expectations.

To my disappointment, I encountered the same problem that many reviewers here have mentioned - The clamps don't clamp tight enough and will easily slip off the vent with just a light jiggle. My mount would often fall off whenever I hit a bump/pothole on the road or if I pushed the screen on my Nuvi too hard.

Here's a workaround that's worked for me:

Fold a tiny piece of cardboard or paper as many times over as it is necessary to wedge it tightly in the space between the lower handle of clamp and the surface perpendicular to the clamp. This will give the jaws of the clamp a lot more clamping power. This little trick has solved my problem with the slippage - my mount is now very securely attached to the vent! HTH.
