How can you balance the taste???

Pros: Nutritious and economical

Cons: Mealy texture and has an aftertaste

The Bottom Line: If I was forced to eat a nutritional bar, this would be the one. I do not like the mealy texture, the bittersweet chocolate covering or the aftertaste!

We have been searching for a tasty energy bar for several months. We bought Balance (The complete nutritional food bar) at Walmart for $1.69, hoping that the search for a good tasting energy bar would be over. We opened the bar tonight, one small bite was enough. My husband and I both had a strange look on our faces as we chewed. And we both agreed that Balance tasted more like sawdust than food.

Since we have been trying different nutritional and high energy bars, I think the biggest problem for us is the aftertaste. Unless our tastebuds change, I doubt if we will ever become fans of a nutritional bar!

The ingredients and nutritional facts for the Honey Peanut Balance Bar are below in a single bar (50g)200 calories:

Total Fat: 6g
Saturated Fat: 3.5g
Cholesterol: less than 5mg
Sodium: 220mg
Potassium: 90mg
Total Carb: 22g
Dietary fiber: 1g
Sugars: 17g
Protein: 14g

The Balance Bar has a special blend of nutrients which include 40% carbohydrate, 30% protein and 30% dietary fat. As with most nutritional supplements, they suggest that you drink at least 8-12 ounces of water with each bar.

The ingredients include: protein blend (Soy Protein Isolate, Calcium Saseinate, Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey),High Fructose Corn Syrup, Honey Toasted Soy Pieces, High Maltose, Corn Syrup, Sugar, Ground Peanuts, Palm Kernel Oil, Natural Flavors, Contains 2% or less of cocoa (processed with Alkali),Lactose,Salt, Dextrose,Lecithin, Canola Oil,Sunflower Oil,Oligofructose, Maltodextrin,and vitamins and minerals: Ascorbic Acid, DL-Alpha-Tocopherol Acetate, Magnesium Oxide, Beta Carotene, Niacinamide, Ferric Orthophosphate,Zinc Oxide, Manganese Sulfate, Copper Gluconate, Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid, Biotin, Potassium Iodide, Chromium chloride, Sodium Selenite, Sodium Molybdate, Cholecalciferol.

I do think that this bar is filled with many good vitamins and minerals. And compared to the other nutritional bars that I have tasted, this bar is the best. I just do not believe I could tolerate this mealy textured bar and the aftertaste for very long! I would rather eat healthy and adjust my diet and take supplemental vitamins and minerals rather than use the Balance Bar. I must also include that this bar may have traces of various nuts. So if you have any allergy to nuts, you should avoid this flavor of the Balance Bar.

This bar appears to resemble a granola bar with a bittersweet chocolate coating. I would rather eat a real granola bar and skip their chocolate flavor. It definitely did not taste like the chocolate flavoring that I am used to! If I find a good nutritional bar with a fairly good taste and no aftertaste, I will let you know!
