A decent substitute for other better known PC security programs

I have been fairly satisfied with my McAfee virus protection program, but when the time came for renewal of my license I decided to shop around a bit and take a closer look at some of the lesser known alternatives. I Bitdefender's program seemed like a worthy program to try, especially in the light of their claim that they are able to detect more viruses than their competitors. Although I am not competent enough to decide the veracity of that claim, I can say that at my computer it was able to detect a few viruses that seems to have escaped McAfee's watchful eye.

I own two Windows 7 machines and one Windows XP netbook, so a 3 PC license works perfectly for my needs. I am also very pleased with the two year license since I am really annoyed every year when the time comes for the licence renewal. Hopefully this will keep me free of those pesky pop-up "renew your licence" windows long enough that I will be able to just use my computers as they were meant to be used.

The installation of the antivirus was a breeze. The installation program was very intuitive, with a very well done GUI. The program checked for all previous installations of other antivirus software packages and removed them so that they wouldn't interfere with the Bitdefender's own software. One thing that I found particularly useful was that during the installation process I was offered an option of saving the installation package onto an USB stick, which comes exceptionally handy for installation onto my netbook.

The Bitdefender program when running in the background seems to have a lighter footprint than the other antivirus software that I had used in the past. Since one of the major annoyances with PCs these days is the amount of bloatware that completely clogs up the system, this is by no means a small consideration. Overall, in the few weeks that I have been using Bitdefender's program, I have been very satisfied with it.
