BURT' S BEES GRAPEFRUIT & SUGAR BEET SHAMPOO- I Don't Like It
Mar 14, 2007
Pros: refreshing smell
Cons: itchy, no body to hair, looks dirty really fast
The Bottom Line: This promises to be a wonderful shampoo, but I don't like it. Itchy droopy dirty looking hair is not my ideal and that is what this shampoo gives me.
Ever since we stopped using Sodium Lauryl Sulfate products, companies have been getting sneakier with their ingredients. Many shampoos have "NO SLS" on the label, but in actuality they contain derrivatives of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in them, many of which are worse in terms of reactions than SLS is.
I am not sure if this is the case with Burt's Bees or not, but when my mother raved on about this new shampoo she found, I had to try it.
I tend to like a few of Burt's Bees things, but with me I have found that many of their products just do not work for me.
WHAT IS THIS SHAMPOO LIKE?
Burt's Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Shampoo with Soy Protein comes in a clear 12 oz plastic bottle with a flip top. The shampoo itself is the color of wildflower honey. It is not as thick as many conventional shampoos because it lacks some of the chemicals added to make it that way.
The shampoo has a slight fragrance of grapefruit which I like. It is refreshing.
The shampoo does suds up a lot which tends to make me suspicious because SLS is a sudsing agent which is a heavy degreaser. I also know that it comes from coconuts in some way so I am cautious about this.
When using it, the shampoo cleans very well and leaves my hair feeling almost too squeaky clean. Again, it makes me suspicious.
Once I am out of the shower and my hair is dry, however, I find that this shampoo leaves my hair straight and encourages NO wave whatsoever. That makes me frustrated. It also leaves my hair shiny at first, but it gets dirty looking by the end of the day.
I have not had that problem with any shampoo in quite a few years.
Where to find it: Most drugstores and grocery stores carry it now.
I had problems with this shampoo making my hair lifeless and droopy. It looked dirty REALLY fast, and my head itched. That makes me suspicious right there- because that is often a symptom of SLS and derrivatives.
I am not happy with this shampoo, but my family uses it occasoinally and their hair looks terrible when they do. I have also heard comments of their head itching too.
Because of this, I can not recommend this shampoo to anyone at this point. Perhaps they will change the formula later on, but for now- forget it.
