Pros: size, stainless steel, clean up

Cons: none

The Bottom Line:
"You should-a taste my lasagna
Ay, you no like-a lasagna
That's okay too"
~ WEIRD AL YANKOVIC

One of the best purchases I ever made was this great lasagna pan. Made by Chef's Essentials, it is absolutely the only pan you will ever need to cook up, and serve, your tasty lasagna. Yes, you will be proud to serve right at the table or buffet with this beautiful stainless steel pan. It's no wimpy pan either, it is 18/10 polished stainless steel, weighs 3 pounds empty, measures 11"L x 15"W x 4-½"D with 3" handles. The handles are another great thing about this pan, they are a hinged loop that folds flat when you don't need them and when you are ready, you flip them up to lift the pan. It is dishwasher safe and oven rated to 600F. What could you have to complain about?

My only complaint is that because it is so huge, I can't seem to stop filling it to the brim. Even though I swear each time, only half way, before you know it, enough lasagna for a small army. That's bad because there are only two of us and one of us doesn't like lasagna. Of course, this isn't the pans fault. In fact, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this pan at all and liked mine so much I bought one for my mom as well. Of course, she lives alone, so you can see her problem - grin. Naturally you aren't restricted to just lasagna for this pan. Any casserole type dish can be prepared in it, just be prepared to make a lot!

Even when I dump way too much into this pan, I have not had any spill over yet while cooking. The upper lip tapers a little, so you can't fill it over the rim and that helps prevent sauce and cheese from bubbling over. I've even used this to make up a batch of potato salad, fresh green salad, and fruit salad. Of course, not all at the same time. The size is great for a large party and with the handles, it is easy to transport. It doesn't come with a lid, but a foil topping will help prevent spills while moving it around.

Although they say it is dishwasher safe, I have always hand washed my pan. After 10+ years, it still looks as good as it did on the day I bought it. I always pre-spray my pan with PAM before baking in it to prevent sticking. It also came with an outstanding servicing spatula that fits the shape of the pan easily. With the size of the spatula, it is easy to cut the lasagna into serving size pieces, then slip them out with the tool.

Empty it weighs 3 lbs., filled with lasagna, you need 3 men and 2 boys to carry it around. Joking, at least partially. At 4" deep, you can imagine how many layers you can get in the pan.

Overall impression:
It is a great item to own and one I'm glad I spent my money on for a change. It is a pricey gift for casual gift giving, but for the cooks in your life, they will love you forever. Not only will they thank you in special ways [that's between you and them] but you will get some tasty food in return.

Thanks,
Susi
