The Canon Rebel XSi, Digital SLR, introduced in January 2008, is the camera that brought the shutterbug back into my blood stream. It's pure ease of use lets even the most novice photographer transition away from a point and shoot. The XSi is also extremely light weight and with its fast autofocus and image stabilizing lenses, it gives anyone the ability to take extremely high quality pictures right out of the box.
Ease of use:
The XSi comes with many advanced features that would in most cases be very daunting to the casual picture taker. After all, ease of use is what 'point and shoot' cameras are all about. What makes this camera so amazing is its simple full auto mode (focus, image stabilizer, ISO, aperture, f-stop), where it becomes essentially a fancy, better quality, point and shoot! I started snapping pictures knowing nothing about any features right out of the box.
Enticing the novice curiosity:
Using this camera in full auto mode is nice, but with all the little buttons, it begs the user to temporarily throw inhibition to the wind and play with its different modes. Basic changes are simple to make with the radial button up top and broadcast on the massive 3" LCD screen. Choose from many standard point-and-shoot modes like landscape, portrait and sports. Go the other direction on the dial and amateur photographer is enticed with modes where only certain features become auto while others are manually adjusted on the fly (f-stop, ISO, aperture, etc.)
