We have a family member who lives in the East Village and we always stay with her when we go to the city. After several trips, it feels like home. I never realized that a block in the city could have the feel of a neighborhood. Such a fun, fascinating, FANTASTIC place.
I sat on the stoop of the hat shop to draw St. Nicholas' one morning. This in itself was an adventure. No less than 30 people walking by gave me drawing advice (I wonder how many of THEM get paid to do art!) and all were very kind and friendly about it. What I didn't realize was how many people in the neighborhood that I knew. ALL of them seemed to go by while I sat on the stoop drawing. All of them stopped to visit and seemed happy to see me in town.
St. Mark's Place is nice too. I love Khyber Pass restaurant. I always see strange and wonderful things when I walk that block.
I don't get to the city often enough to suit me, but it's so nice to have a place that feels like home... once I'm south of 14th street!
