Pros: clean, convenient, well designed and great staff
Cons: none for me
The Bottom Line:
"She Say I Sound Funny At Embassy Suites Sittin On The Bed Countin Money" ~Eightball & Mjg
Another trip to Ohio, another hotel. This time we selected the Embassy Suites, Columbus-Airport because it was close to both the airport and I-270, which I take to reach the nursing home where my mom is staying now.
Check in was a breeze with no problems, same held true with check out. The desk was well staffed and they were polite and courteous. The lobby is well appointed with an eating area off to one side, where you get your delicious breakfast. It does face out to the open air atrium at the center of the hotel accompanied by a large fountain. Quite a nice space to take a little break and relax. The atrium lounge is where they hold the Manager's Reception nightly. Adjacent to this area is their restaurant, Flying Spoons, where you can get a light lunch or snacks.
The room: Let me tell you what we like about Embassy Suites ... the fact that it is a suite, without the extra expense. It offers a separate bedroom area and living area, as well as a kitchenette. The bedroom had a king-size bed outfitted with a Serta Suite Dreams mattress. The living area had a sleeper sofa, queen-size, so it could accommodate a family of four with no problem. Both rooms offered a 42" HDTV with movies in-suite. They also offer, which is unusual, hard wired and wireless connection for your computer, for a nominal fee.
The kitchenette is smaller but accommodating. It had an under counter refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and wet bar. They also supply basic utensils and plates, both disposable. The large desk in the living area doubles as an eating surface but it does only have the one chair. There is a safe in the room large enough to store your laptop if you are out and about and don't want it disturbed.
The bathroom was good size with a full tub/shower, complimentary toiletries, and - oh, yeah, double ply toilet paper. Towels were large, soft, and plentiful.
Amenities: Some amenities offered by the hotel are a 24-hour business center, complimentary, sundry shop, in house laundry and dry cleaning services, 24-hour fitness center, indoor pool with whirlpool, and a sun deck. We did indulge in the pool and whirlpool, which were both wonderful and well needed. The area surrounding the pool is large with quite a few chairs & lounges with scattered tables.
We did not utilize their shuttle service which goes to both the airport and Easton Town Center, since we had our own rental vehicle. In addition we did not attend the nightly Manager's Reception that offers finger food and complimentary drinks, including adult beverages. We did partake in the cooked-to-order breakfast each morning which offers fresh fruits, pastries, waffles, pancakes, eggs, breakfast meats, juices, coffee & tea.
This location also has The Flying Spoons Restaurant but since we either dined out or at friends and family, we never even stepped foot in the place. It is convenient, however, for out of town people staying at this facility for work or conventions since it does offer an eating establishment on site if you are without transportation. From what I understand they offer a decent fare at a reasonable price and don't rush you out after your meal is done. In fact they encourage you to stay.
For those interested, they have a full array of banquet, meeting, and convention possibilities. They have several meeting rooms as well as a large reception area outside the rooms.
Overall impression: Overall I was very impressed with this location, the staff, and my stay. I've stayed in other Embassy Suites and have always been pleased with the accommodations, staff, and pricing. If it wasn't my goal to try out new hotels each time I visit Columbus, I'd definitely stay there again.
