Cons: way too expensive, not much in container, stupid container design
The Bottom Line: I am very disappointed in this product. Estee Lauder should have done much better with this shadow and container. Nice colors, but low quality.
It all started last year before I had discovered my beloved STAGELIGHT eyeshadow once again after 15 years. I had been looking for something to fill that empty space left by them, but doing it unsuccessfully.
I saw the PURE COLOR EYESHADOW on the Estee Lauder web site and asked about it at the counter. It just so happened the state reps were at the counter, so I could ask them about it.
Well, they said that they were only available at the stores in large cities, etc. etc.
Well, relatively recently, I found these shadows at a department store I was visiting and got all excited. In the collection was a color I had been looking for- a green turquoise color.
As the last part of my Christmas gift money, I decided to make the purchase.
Well, I guess I had better enjoy it.
WHAT IS THIS STUFF LIKE
I have to say that I have really loved the PURE COLOR LIPSTICK that I have used, so the eyeshadow had to be great, eh?
Well, not exactly.
The shadow itself is a velvety creamy shadow, reminiscent of the Christian Dior or Chanel Shadows I have tried.
The colors I saw are very bright pastels(if that makes sense), and they come in a lucite small block, the size of an ice cube.
The tiny circle of shadow contained inside is almost shocking. It is very small. On the top lid is a very tiny mirrorabout 3/4 diameter.
The really stupid part of it is that the tiny applicator has no place in the container at all. What a disappointment.
It comes in a blue/gold box with only .05 oz (1.7g) of product inside. The applicator is only 1 3/8 inches long- easy to lose and dark black sponge with a clear handle. There is no scent to it.
HOW DO I LIKE THIS SHADOW?
Well, the color I have is a turquoise green with a mint tendency to it. It is bright, yet pastel. It has a touch of shimmer, same color as the shadow. The texture is creamy and velvety. It goes on smoothly, and it starts light and you build it up.
Alone, the shadow is about normal in staying power. If you use a base like AQUATIQUE by Lancome, it lasts a lot longer. With MAC paints that I have, it does not like to stick to them as a base, so I can not use it.
I would say if you use it alone it will last about two to four hours, and if you apply it over base, it will last from three to eight hours.
That has been my experience with it, anyway.
All in all, I have to say that I am rather unimpressed with this shadow. I like it a little less that the COLOR FOCUS from Lancome, however, it does stay softer. The large lucite block will keep it from breaking if dropped- a good thing as it is so soft, it will break easily unless heavily protected.
I give this shadow a two star rating, but barely.
The container is stupid- with no place to put the applicator, there is WAY TOO LITTLE product, and the shadow is substandard in staying power. Smooth, lovely, but who cares if it disappears?
It is way too expensive, and I really wish I had used my Christmas money to purchase something else more worth while. I do love the color, the only redeeming thing about my purchase.
Sigh. So goes the world of cosmetics. Another marketing illusion brings heartache........
