The Bottom Line: The Fisher Price Sensory Selections Bouncer offers a nest of sensory stimulation to either entertain or soothe.

With my second little guy, I really didn’t think about buying a new bouncer seat as I still had our Infant to Toddler Rocker, but luckily we were privileged to receive several items from my husband’s co-worker. One of the like new items we gained was the Fisher Price Sensory Selections Baby Bouncer. Though this little guy wasn't much of a bouncer bay, he still enjoyed many of the features on this seat.

Bounce Baby’s Senses
The Sensory Selections Bouncer is a little different than others I’ve seen before. Set on a base that comes up around the sides of the bouncer, the seat is nice and wide and acts much like a cradle. The recline of the seat actually depends on the weight of the baby due to the frame design. When baby is still little, the seat is cradle-like since it lays pretty flat. As baby gets bigger, the seat dips down further creating more of a sitting position. Also, with this same design, baby’s kicking legs creates the bouncing of the seat, with pretty minimal effort. The seat itself is where the sensory experience begins for baby. Not only is the fabric made of nice bright reds and oranges, there is also a variety of textures incorporated in the seat. The bright orange middle is where baby lays and is made of a soft fleecy like material. Around the fleece is some corduroy fabric. This area makes up a removable nest space that makes the seat comfy and easy to clean. The rest of the seat is covered in bright red cotton fabric. The one thing I did not like about the seat set-up is that the control box for the music and vibration is located at the foot of the seat. Even at a very small size my munchkin was continually banging his feet on the box.

Entertaining the Senses
For entertainment and soothing purposes, the Sensory Selections Bouncer has several different options to stimulate baby's senses. Though it does take 1 D battery and 3 C batteries to keep this entertainment going, I don't recall having to change them all that often, which is good because you have to remove the cover in order to change them.

Oh what do you see baby?
One option that is distinctly different is that the bouncer has an overhead arm featuring a motorized mobile to stimulate sight. The ball shape in the middle is a mirror and the ring around the outside contains various black and white patterns as well as colored beads. When you don't want to over stimulate baby the arm tucks up under the seat. My little guy really enjoyed when we had the mobile going.

Bouncin' (or snoozin') to the music
As with most bouncer seats, the Sensory Selections seat does feature music in a variety of modes. You can have music, music with the mobile, the mobile alone or baby activated music/mobile. The speakers for the music are located on the side of the seat near baby's head. Each of them can be turned away to effect the volume of the music that baby hears. Unlike most bouncers I've experienced, this one actually has decent music and a good selection of 11 different nursery rhymes. In the interactive mode, baby's motions or rattle sounds activate both the music and the mobile, depending on which switched you have turned on. The music selections for this mode are much more lively than using just the music alone. If your batteries are running low this mode will not quite work properly.

Playtime rattles
To help stimulate the sense of touch Fisher Price has included two rattle toys that have a variety of textures on them. Since this was a hand-me-down, we only had one, which was a plastic bear rattle on a rubber handle. Baby can either look at, bat at or play with the rattles since there are two swing in stations that contain slots the toys can be inserted in. When you want the toys stored away, there are slots included at the foot of the base as well. I will say that once baby becomes mobile or if you have other children, the toys will probably wander away from the bouncer at some point.

Soothing the Senses
When all of the play time is done, you can turn on the vibration mode to help soothe baby to sleep. This vibration didn't get as much use with Z-Man as he was preferential to the swing, but it did come in handy when he needed something different. The vibration seemed strong enough to be soothing, yet not overwhelming. The best part... it didn't seem to eat my batteries either.

Z-Man is the Deciding Factor
Overall the Fisher Price Sensory Selections Bouncer was well enjoyed in our house. The seat as a whole is larger, which made it difficult to move from place to place. Luckily we had a separate seat we could use in our downstairs. We seemed to get the most use out of it once the little guy got big enough to interact with the various features and toys. The manual recommends that you discontinue use when baby can sit up on their own, or approximately 20 pounds. For the longest time after Z became mobile though he would enjoy crawling up into his seat since it was stored in his room. The bouncer has lasted quite well, even when older kids have wanted to lounge in it, although the seat fabric is starting to rip after Z-Man figured out he could stand and bounce on it. This was when it got stored away for when baby #3 comes along.
