This little camera is as rugged as Fuji claims it is. I've taken it all the way to its ten foot depth limit, banged it around a canoe, dropped it in the dirt, and it functions perfectly. Unfortunately, perfectly in the case of this camera means washed out photos, lots of noise in anything but bright light, and often poor auto-focusing. However, the utility of the camera is such that I still find it a nice addition to the gadget drawer.
I understand that a small camera has inherent limitations in image quality to the size of the lens and sensor, but compared to our Canon of similar size, the Fuji takes pictures of noticeably lesser quality. On the other hand, our Canon will be very unhappy in a little bit of rain, let alone underwater. Perhaps the need to harden this camera forced them to compromise on image quality. So, I can't be terribly critical of the FinePix XP10. I just want people to know that you're giving up a certain amount of image quality going with this camera, so make sure that you really need the waterproofing if you're going to buy this. If you just get this as your main digital camera, thinking the durability and weather-proofing will be nice, you will probably be disappointed and wish you'd gotten a camera with better image quality.
