Gerber Tossable Cups - Did That Hippo Tinkle on My Couch?
Dec 1, 2007
Pros: Cute, can be used as a regular cup
Cons: LEAKS - a lot
The Bottom Line: Stay away from these animals... they are not house broken.
We were looking to add some new cups to our inventory since several had disappeared. Roaming through the baby section we came across the Gerber Graduate Tossable Sippy Cups. We these were cute and we liked our other Gerber cups so we figured at $4.99 for 3 cups we would give them a shot.
Who Put the Zoo in My Cupboard? Gerber Tossables come in a three pack of 10 oz plastic sippy cups. This is a flexible plastic like you would get with a children's meal at a restaurant. Each cup is a different bright color (yellow, orange, blue) and the lid designed with a cute face to look like a different animal (cat, monkey and hippopotamus). Each hard plastic lid has an oval spout to drink from. There are no stoppers to worry about with these cups (more on that later). To assemble the cup, you simply push the lid on the turn it to secure. The colored cup features pictures of the corresponding animal painted around the top and is translucent to see how much liquid is remaining.
The cups seem to be pretty durable even for being "tossable". I have not noticed any teeth marks on the spout and the lid stays attached very well. The cups are dishwasher safe on the top rack. I will say these don't store as easily as I would like... but most of my other cups don't either.
Mommy, the Monkey Leaked on the Couch Again Alright I will start with the positives (since there are so few)... First off, I like that the threads for the lid are on the inside of the cup. This means we can use these as regular cups later on. Also, these are very cute and my son loves the animal tops. And that's about it for the positives.
Now for our experience.
It doesn't take much for Little Man to get his drinks out of the cup. Well that's because they leak, right out the spout... and not just a little. They drip like a leaky faucet. Little Man likes to shake his cups - to see if there's anything in them - and the drink inside will literally spray everywhere. Also, if these cups are tipped, I guarantee there will be a wet spot even in a small amount of time. Numerous time Little Man has ended up with a lap full of juice by setting his cup sideways in his car seat - same with milk on our couch
I still use these cups, but as a last resort or when I know we're not going to be going anywhere. Don't be fooled by the name, there are other cups that cost about the same and have better leak protection.
