Before becoming America's favorite island escape, Hawaii's ancient species and civilizations thrived on its bounties. Today, the state's main species is tourist sapiens. When not erupting, the Hawaii's volcanoes account for a good … see full wiki

Pros: Sun, sand and shimmer

Cons: one week is 7 days too short

Review Topic: Sights & Attractions

Spent a short one week vacation in Honolulu ... one week is not enough. Good points, I am from Ohio, it was February .... you get the picture! The plane ride was torture, can you spell jet lag?

After hearing my cousin brag her berg up for 20 years, I bit the bullet and took the flight. I have never seen a more beautiful place, but darling ... I do believe there are still dinosaurs there.

Up, up, up into the mountains we went. The plant life, fog, mountains - Godzilla could have walked out any minute and I wouldn't have been surprised. My cousin lives at the base of the Punchbowl so we were pretty centrally located.

Took that #8 bus everywhere, if you stay on long enough, you end up back where you started (good thing too). Spent way too much at the shopping center (I won't even attempt to spell it) and it was HUGE. Saw the largest ship I have ever seen in my life, the weirdest trees. Diamondhead was breathtaking, in more ways than one (puff, puff). The sunset over the coves at night, there is nothing like it stateside.

I stayed with my cousin so I wasn't in the heart of toursitville. I saw how the everyday Hawaiian lives and works. The housing is quite strange, usually two homes to every property. Downtown Honolulu is busy busy busy.

The food was great, the ocean was warm, didn't find any shells - you have to buy them in Hawaii! The people were fantastic. Prices were about the same as stateside (except gasoline). Kite flying is a profession not a sport.

The flowers are gorgeous, the beaches soft. The sun BIG and bright. They have a weekly flea market which is huge (I have never been to a flea market before but I could tell this was huge) where I bought fabric dirt cheap, then turned around and went to a fabric store and paid both arms and one leg for a little piece - go figure.

Met some really great people and can't wait to go back again. But first I want them to check out those mountains!

I have 4 feet of snow right outside my door, your review sure made me crave a trip to Hawaii, or any place warmer than 40 degrees Fahrenheit really!
