Pros: Very to use, state of the art good quality, not very expensive.

Cons: Have not found any at this time.

The Bottom Line: I would highly recommend this to everyone that I know for the up to date product that it is.

Let me tell you a story about how we came to purchase this particular model. It all started out because of the paper. I did not know that each different type of printer can be quite picky when it comes to the type of paper that you use. I found this out after returning 6 different types of printers. All of the salesmen kept telling me that these were quality printers. They did not think that the problem that I was having would be the paper. That is when I did a little experiment. I purchased a couple different types of paper that I had previously had good luck with and tried them. It worked, that was the problem.

At the time of figuring this out I had purchased the HP C7180 printer. The main reason that I ended up with this one is for the scanning slide and film negative capabilities. I had to scan approximately 1300 slides to be put on a disc later.

I purchased this from Office Max on May 10, 2007. For $400.00 minus eighty dollars because it was on sale. Then you have to add the service contract for eighty dollars. So that negates the savings that you saved from buying it on sale. This was the first printer that I have seen with the capabilities to scan slide and negatives. I was able to scan all of the slides successfully. With very little difficulty. It does do somethings that I can not explain. But, for the most part it did what it was supposed to do.

I have noticed that depending on what type of document that you are printing will depend on how fast it works. But, usually it is in a very fast manner. I did notice that it will slow down tremendously if you print a document on photo paper. The DPI is of the utmost speed. For printing the DPI is 1200 x 1200 when using only black ink straight from the computer. When you are using color it goes to 4800 x 1200 dpi. The print speed will differ depending on how hard the document is. It also does a lot of panorama size printing. It also has thermal drop on demand type inkjet. The duty cycle is 3000 printing pages per month. It will print several sizes and types of paper. Such as: plain paper, legal paper, cards, envelopes, transparency film, labels, 4 x 6 inch photo paper, 8.5 x 11 photo paper.

The copying 4800 x 4800 dpi, it also has digital image processing, holds up to 50 original copies. It will zoom up to 400% and will fit it to the page. You can copy a black and white of up to 32 pages per minute and a color page of up to 31 pages per minute.

To scan is very easy, it comes with a image editor. It has the integrated OCR software which automatically converts scanned text to an edible text. A twain complaint interface. Resolution when scanning is 4800 x 4800 dpi optical and 19200 dpi enhanced software. It also has a 48 bit color, and 8 bit grey scale with 256 levels of grey. The maximum scan size from the glass is 8.5 x 11.

The faxing get a little more difficult. Because if you have an answering machine or voice mail you will have to turn the fax part off til you are sitting right there and can turn the system on when you know a fax is coming in and then turn the system back to it's original settings so that your phone will work properly. This is what I do since I don't get very many faxes. You can fax either black and white or color. This can hold up to 75 speed dials. Will hold up to 90 pages in it's memory. You can manually send and receive faxes. Plus you can use the automatic busy redial up to five times and one time no-answer redial. It will also give confirmation and activity reports. It has 3 fax groups with error correction modes with 33.6 kbps transmissions. It will only take 3 seconds per page at this speed. Also included is a ring detection with automatic fax and answering machine switching.

This printer is a little larger than most printers. But, it will fit right on top of a file cabinet quite nicely. The height is 8"-9" and the width is 18"-19", it is approx. 16" deep and weighs about 27 pounds. It uses 95 watts maximum and takes 100 ac to 240 volts

There is a nice little addition of the screen that pulls out so that you can view and print you photos right from your disc from your camera. It lets you view all of your photos and then select the ones that you want to print directly on 4 x 6 photo page that has it's own separate tray.

There are options that you can do are numerous starting with copying in color and black and all different sizes. The scan area will sometimes a little slow but you will like the outcome. The display screen that is in color helps with looking at all of your photos. The preview will display your job so you can see what you are doing before you actually do it. There is a set up button so that you can change all of the settings and generating reports. You can also rotate any thing that is put in upside down.
The option to put all of you photos directly from the disc to your PC. will come in handy. Also it will erase all of the photos at once from the click of a button from the disc. There is a real nice option in this printer and that it can automatically fix all of your photos if you don't like the way it looks. If you want to you have the option of zooming in and looking at the most smallest detail.

If you have a wireless connection this will come in very handy. There is a fast hookup paper that you can use to get started. The ink that you use is hp 02, this comes with 6 different colored cartridges. This is a lot better than the usual 3 or 4 that come in all of the other ones. If you use either hp paper or kodak paper you will get a very nice copy. Also if you take your empty cartridges back to the store they usually give you 3 dollars back when you purchase more. That's a lot of savings plus good for the environment.

If you can't make out the color that it says to change just look at the shape that shows up on the screen and that will be the one to change.

The warranty that this comes with is about average. But usually if you have problems you will have them right away. Then you can take it back where you bought it from. They usually will not give you any problems. There is a 1 year on the printer itself and 90 days on the software. One year on all accessories unless otherwise stated. You don't have to worry about the ink warranty because you will probably use it up before you would need to use the warranty.
