Cons: none for me
The Bottom Line: "I wanna see you grovel, you waffle-eatin' fools Everybody, on your knees You wanna buy a waffle, you're playin' by my rules" ~Weird Al Yankovic
I don’t know why I got it in my head I needed a waffle maker but for some reason I’ve been jonesing for a waffle. Pancakes just aren’t the same thing for some reason. After careful shopping I settled on this Hoffritz HZBW4, for no particular reason other than the looks of the thing. I have to admit it has worked out fine and delivered as promised.
Specifications: ~14” x 11” x 5” ~Weight 11 pounds ~Cast aluminum body, brushed finish, black rubber handle ~1400 watts ~Floating hinge ~Cord wrap ~Electronic controls w/LED reading ~Nonstick grids ~Crisp button w/6 browning settings ~Makes four 4-1.2” waffles with deep pockets
When you turn the unit on it takes a few seconds to preheat then a light shines and a signal beeps when it is ready for your waffle mix. You have a good selection of browning, but you have to rely on trial and error until you find the setting you prefer. I generally always choose the mid setting until I get the hang of a new toy. With the crisp button you can have a crisper exterior while the inside of the waffle is moist and soft. With the nonstick grids the waffle release easily with no hangers-on to ruin a perfect square. It also makes for easy cleaning.
Cast aluminum construction keeps the unit sturdy for years of extended use and the brushed finish helps keep the exterior free of fingerprints and smudges. It also has black, rubberized, handles that stay cool for easier control and use of the unit. With the hinged lid it allows the waffles to swell to their desired size without smashing them down and gives deep pockets to soak up all that butter and syrup, or fruit if that is your choice.
I could have gone with a regular waffle maker but I decided the Belgian would offer the deeper pockets that I was looking for. As far as performance, it has done an outstanding job and cooked my waffles just the way I’ve been wanting them. However, if you are looking for a standard type waffle, Hoffritz does not offer one unfortunately.
Clean up is incredibly easy with a soft rag. The bottom has a slotted cord wrap to keep the unit neat and tidy. It comes with a two-year warranty. I couldn’t be more pleased with this new addition to our kitchen but now I have to learn to step away from the waffles before they become an addiction. It wouldn’t be hard to do when it is so simple to prepare them and clean up afterward.
