Oooh! That's my Hot Spot! JK Jemma Kidd Lip Gloss hits the spot!
Aug 5, 2010
Pros: Great summery shade, stain and gloss, shiny, not sticky, flattering, hydrating
Cons: This tube has a metallic scent that isn't awful but not great either.
The Bottom Line: JK Jemma Kidd Air Kiss Shine Lip Gloss in Hot Spot is a shiny gloss and stain in one. Flattering summery hue. Great for day to nighttime wear.
I am a fan of JK Jemma Kidd cosmetics so, when I was at Target recently, I had to stop by the cosmetics section and pick up something from the brand. I chose JK Jemma Kidd Air Kiss Shine Lip Gloss in Hot Spot because it was a nice peach/pink shade that looks great with summery clothes and makeup.
I like this gloss as much as i do the others I have. It is a stain and gloss in one with loads of pigment and great staying power.
This gloss comes in a signature very dark pink JK Jemma Kidd box. The tube is slim and round with clear plastic on the bottom. The top is black with the initials JK in pink metallic lettering. The applicator is a sponge tipped one.
Like Poser, Dress 2 Impress, and Undress, Hot Spot is both a stain and a gloss. When I first applied this product to my lips, it looked pinker than I expected. I was thinking it was more peach hued. But the pink looked good on my lips and had some peach undertones which made the shade unique and very summery for me.
The formula is not sticky and not too thick. It's extremely shiny although not glittery or shimmery. There is a rather weird scent to this gloss which I don't smell with the others I own. It's not bad but it's also not good. It almost smells like metal if that makes sense. There is no taste though so that's a relief and the scent goes away after a few minutes.
JK Jemma Kidd Air Kiss Shine Lip Gloss in Hot Spot is not sheer at all. It covers my lips completely in pretty color and looks shiny as well. It's like a lipstick with a gloss shine. As with most glosses, though, the color wears off in the usual amount of time - around an hour to an hour and a half. But the cool thing about this and the other Air Kiss Shine Lip Glosses is that, once the initial color fades away, there is a stain of color left behind on my lips. This stain flushes my lips and looks completely natural. it doesn't give me prune lips or make my lips look cracked or dry. I get no ugly ring around my mouth nor any patchiness. It's like an added bonus to the gloss.
The stain part of this gloss lasts at least another hour or two if I don't apply more gloss. It isn't in your face noticeable but it is there, making my lips look better and rosier.
Hot Spot, while being lighter my usual glosses, flatters my skin tone. Although it is a pink shade, it isn't a bubble gum pink. It's got that peach and even possibly a touch of bronze in there to make a unique, flattering shade that goes with any color clothing and any type of make up.
JK Jemma Kidd Air Kiss Shine Lip Gloss in Hot Spot is great for beachy, casual days but can easily take you into nighttime festivities looking plush and shiny.
I have no problems washing off the stain part of this gloss. If it hasn't already faded on its own, it comes off with my usual facial cleanser.
This gloss doesn't dry my lips out at all. In fact, it is infused with Vitamin E to condition and hydrate. I have been wearing Hot Spot often since I purchased it because it looks so nice with my summery clothes. I could wear this shade in winter but it just seems to me to be a more warm weather shade on my already rosy lips.
I am medium skinned with slight olive undertones and this shade doesn't clash with my skin tome or wash me out like some pink shades can. This brightens both my smile and my complexion. Buying Info
JK Jemma Kidd Air Kiss Shine Lip Gloss in Hot Spot, and the other shades, is only available at Target stores or you can purchase it online at Target.com or through Amazon who gets the glosses from Target. Jemma Kidd is a British makeup artist who markets two lines of her makeup. One is the Target only line and one is the somewhat higher priced Jemma Kidd line which just starting to become available on a few websites in the US. This gloss is $16.00 but really, it is worth it!
Although JK Jemma Kidd Air Kiss Shine Lip Gloss Hot Spot seems like it might be too light for me, it really isn't. It's not bold or brash but it is flattering, warms my skin, and looks great on me. It is shiny and never sticky and, when it fades, I love the stain left behind. My lips are never bare. I reapply the gloss after a while and the stain is also renewed when the gloss wears off.
The scent is somewhat weird but I am wondering if I just got an off tube. My three other tubes in different shades don't have any scent. I may go back and see if the others in Hot Spot have the same scent. Still, that metallic scent isn't enough to turn me off of JK Jemma Kidd Air Kiss Shine Lip Gloss in Hot Spot. 4 stars.
