Uncomfortable, poor sound quality, and not fantastic for exercising
Sep 23, 2011
Although I find earbuds to be incredibly convenient and easy-to-use most of the time, they really don't work that well for exercising or doing strenuous activity. I decided to try these out for when I want to listen to music while moving around a lot. Unfortunately, when after much work I finally got these to stay in my ear, they proved to be incredibly uncomfortable and not play music that well either.
The Bad: -They're uncomfortable. This headset has a hook-like design that fits around your ear much like a bluetooth headset. The hook is does not seem to have been developed with comfort in mind at all; although it may very well feel differently on someone else's ear. The hook push into my ear so hard that just wearing the headset for a few minutes causes my outer ear to ache horribly. If I try to loosen the headset, it creates an entirely different problem. -They're either too tight or too loose. When they're tight, you get the uncomfortable feeling that I just described. When you loosen them, however, they are quick to fall off the instant you ever-so-slightly shake your head. If it didn't claim to be a "sports headset" it wouldn't be as big of a problem, but I was honestly looking for something that would stay on my ear throughout heavy movement without me having to tighten it to the point of pain. The problems don't stop at how these headsets fit, though. -They don't have good sound quality. There are extension cords added with the headset to make it easier to not have to have your phone or iPod extremely close to you. Unfortunately, with each extension you add on, the sound quality gets worse; and when all three cords are connected, the sound is distorted beyond recognition. With just the smallest cord, the sound quality is pretty good but still not competitive with the sound from earbuds.
The Good: -They are slightly customizable. There are different pads that you can place on the actual headset "speakers" to adapt them to your personal inner ear. This is a nice touch that I wish could somehow be used on the hook, as well.
Overall, I really don't like or recommend this headset to anyone looking for something to use while exercising or moving. I'm sure other ear shapes will fit perfectly with this headset, but my ear shape clashes. I'd even go as far to say that I recommend earbuds over this headset. I just wasn't pleased at all with the product and won't be using it often at all.
