Pros: Inexpensive; shea, cocoa, mango butter; improves skin tone and radiance; provides ample, long-lasting moisture

Cons: None for me

The Bottom Line: Good for men and women, this lotion smells and feels great on the skin, and provides long-lasting moisture.

When I first found out I was pregnant I suddenly found I had a lot on my mind and though I was out of body lotion I kept putting off buying some.  I knew I should find something that could potentially help ward of stretch marks (good luck with that, I've been told) but I had no idea what to get.  Because my last lotion was a Jergens lotion, I figured I'd stick with the brand and but try a new variety.  I picked up Jergens Shea Butter SKin Enriching Moisturizer because it had shea butter, which I've heard may help with stretch marks, and because it smelled nice, was Jergen's, and came in a nice-sized (26.5 fluid ounces) pump-bottle.

About the Product

The bottle says that this lotion will penetrate skin to 'hydrate you to heaven.'  It claims it will instantly relieve dryness and replenish moisture, as well as enhance 'the skin's own moisture barrier.'  It also says it will provide 24-hour hydration and will make skin radiant and silky-soft.  This product is made with shea butter, mango butter, and cocoa butter.

The bottle I purchased was around $7.00 and is 26.5 fl. oz. with a pump top for easy lotion dispensing.

Ingredients

Water, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Petrolatum, Cetereth-20, Hydroxyethyl Urea, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Ethylhexyl Isonanoate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Octyldodecyl Myristate, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Cetyl Esters, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Fragrance, Isohexadecane, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Sodium Hydroxide, Stearic Acid, Carbomer, Mineral Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Methylisothiazolinone, Methylparaben, Propylparaben.

My Experience

My husband and I both love to use lotion all over our skin after our showers, so I like to keep a large pump bottle sitting on the edge of our tub for easy lotioning.  When I brought this home I told him I hoped the shea and cocoa butters would help minimize the possibility of stretch marks, and while I thought it may scare him out of using it, he actually got to it before I did.  He raved about the smell and the texture and how good he felt after using it, and I have to admit when he got near me he smelled pretty nice, so I was excited to use it myself.

Post shower I pumped a few dollops of the Jergens Shea Butter into my hands and rubbed the lotion into my skin, starting at my ankles, and working my way up.  I made sure to put an extra layer on the "3 Bs," my belly, breasts, and butt, in an effort to scare away stretch marks.  My husband lotions my upper back for me when he's around because I just can't reach it anymore; it's one of the dryer spots of my skin and sometimes gets itchy if I don't keep it moisturized.  I was surprised that I really didn't need a huge amount of lotion to get myself moisturized.  One dollop generally worked for each section of my body (1 dollop per leg, 1 for my belly, 1 for my back, etc.) and I didn't feel like I was skimping.  The lotion was creamy and fairly thick, but not so much that I wasn't able to work it into my skin, or so that I felt like I needed to melt it in my hands first.  The lotion seemed to seep right into my skin without much trouble and without disappearing, andy to my surprise my skin did seem to have a little glow to it; it certainly made me feel radiant and even... sexy, despite my growing belly!  It smelled like warm, cocoa-ey, and I could detect the slightly sweet, tangy mango scent as well.  It smelled like a warm tropical day :)

I bought this bottle of lotion about 3 months ago and we're just now getting to the bottom of the bottle; my husband and I both use it on our entire bodies at least once a day.  We both love it; the smell, the way it feels going into our skin, and the lasting moisture it provides.  I mentioned before that my upper back is one of my worst dry-spots, and if my husband isn't around to hit it with the Jergens Shea Butter it does get dryer and itchier... this lotion doesn't last much longer than 24 hours, but I can't say I've ever experienced a lotion that does.  My skin seems consistently softer and with a better all-over tone and radiance since beginning usng this lotion.

At 25 years old I can't lie and say I don't have stretch marks; I've had some for over a decade now.  While I now there isn't much I can do to get rid of them, or even to prevent future stretch marks, I do feel like keeping my body and the 3 Bs moisturized has helped me so far in my pregnancy.  My skin feels more elastic and it doesn't hurt as I get bigger.  Of course, I've got 4 more months to go...

Overall Jergens Shea Butter is an inexpensive, delicious-smelling, great-feeling lotion for my family.  I plan to finish the bottle and probably buy another.
