Pros: Convenient

Cons: Leaves streaks, fogs mirrors, cloths dry out, strong odor

The Bottom Line: Windex Wipes Streak Free Shine leave mirrors and windows streaky and foggy. They're convenient for quick clean ups but I won't buy them again.

I am all about fast and easy (That sounds bad, doesn't it? Ha!) when it comes to household chores. I'm not very domestic and I want to get a job done and move on to other things. I bought Windex Wipes, Streak Free Shine because they seemed to be easier to use than traditional spray. They are a bit easier to udr but they're not better!

About the Product

These wipes no longer come in a pouch like the photo above depicts. They now come in a round plastic canister with 28 wipes in each. I assume the packaging change was to keep the wipes moist better since there were issues with the way the pouch closed. The canister really is not much better.

These wipes are pre-moistened with Windex and are 7"x8". They thread through a hole in the the canister but the entire roll is exposed whenever you go to take a wipe out, potentially allowing the wipes to dry out. I found that the last four or five wipes in my canister were completely dry and useless.

These are general glass, mirror, and clean up wipes which can be used on bathroom surfaces and anywhere that you would normally use spray Windex.

They have quite a strong odor of Windex, that familiar alcohol scent. It's quite overbearing but does dissipate after use. The cloths are moist but not damp and there is no Windex solution in the canister that they sit in.

My Use

My bathroom mirrors are always in need of cleaning. I noticed that the wood area around the medicine cabinet mirror was looking a little dark, owing more than likely to me spraying glass cleaner on and around the mirror so often. Windex Wipes, Streak Free Shine seemed like a good solution to avoid drenching the wood while still cleaning the mirror as often as necessary.

The wipes are a decent size, white, and fairly thin. Pulling one from the threading in the canister is a little bit of a hassle but nothing that would turn me off to using them. From the first time I cleaned the mirror, I noticed that, while the debris came off quickly, the mirror was left streaky and a bit foggy. I had to use a soft, dry cloth and basically buff away the streaks and fog. I used these wipes on a small window in the bathroom as well and saw the same results. Streaks and fog.

On bathroom and kitchen surfaces, I didn't notice anything like that because the surfaces are colored and solid but, on every mirror or window I used the cloths on, the streaks and fog were present.

So, instead of making it easier for me to quickly clean mirrors and windows, I actually had to do more work by buffing away the streaks left behind by the Windex Wipes.

My husband used the wipes in the car and saw the same results on glass. Again, on other surfaces, it wasn't an issue. However, Windex generally is used for glass, at least in my household, and these wipes just don't perform like the traditional spray does. While I do sometimes get a streaky finish using the spray, it's nothing like I get with the wipes. The fog is unsightly and needs quite a bit of buffing to expose the shine of the glass.

For a product that calls itself "Streak Free Shine", I am amazing that it is neither streak free nor leaves behind a shine on glass. The directions do say, "For best results, avoid use on glass that is in direct sunlight or is hot to the touch.  Such use may cause streaking and limit surface coverage." Not only do the wipes cause streaks on glass in direct sunlight but they cause streaks on glass nowhere near the light of day!

Another issue I have had with the canister is that the whole 28 cloth roll is connected (Think: paper towels). If I pull a wipe out too quickly, I will sometimes pull out several at once. I have to be careful to pull just one and use the plastic "teeth" in the canister to separate it from the roll. I would prefer separate sheets. In fact, I preferred the pouch to the canister on every level. The pouch was easier to store and to keep in the car or other small places and the wipes were stacked on top of each other for easy access. While the closing mechanism for the pouch needed improving, so too does the whole canister idea. Every time I need a wipe, I expose the entire roll to the air. As I said before, the last wipes end up dry and basically useless because of this.

Buying Info

Windex Wipes, Streak Free Shine are available at drugstores and mass-market stores on and offline. The price is around $3.00-$3.50 per 29 cloth cannister. You definitely pay for the convenience of having the Windex and cloths in one!

I am not impressed at all with Windex Wipes, Streak Free Shine. They streak and fog, dry out before their gone, and make cleaning glass and mirrors more of a hassle than just using the spray. I am going with 2 stars. For me, these cloths are certainly not the fast and easy answer I was looking for to keep my mirrors and small windows clear and clean.
