Juicelady Electronic Professional Blender: I Thought Our Vita Mix Was Good....
Jul 13, 2001
Pros: easy-to-clean, small footprint, sleek-look, sealed buttons, powerful motor, glass container, fast, great blades
Cons: wish there was more metal and less plastic on base unit for gears
The Bottom Line: Having been a Vita Mix dealer for years, I thought that nothing could come close to the performance. This blender is very close and costs a lot less too!
FROM VITA MIX TO JUICELADY
As you will know if you have read my review on the Juice Lady Juicer, I really love this blender. I was a Vita Mix dealer for over 10 years and have seen and used many different blenders. However, I was used to my Vita Mix machines and was not particularly interested in stepping down to a more inferior unit. At that time that would have included any blender except the Vita Mix unit.
It was about a year ago when we finally decided to get a juicer. The Vita Mix is NOT a good juicer and I was really interested in carrot juice that actually tasted good without making me choke on the small particles of carrot like the Vita Mix did.
The day I ordered the Juice Lady, I was told that there was a deal going on that they would include the Juice Lady blender with the Juice Lady juicer. I told them rather loftily that I would not like the blender since I had my wonderful Vita Mix. I asked them for a price reduction if they did not include the blender, but they told me it was free and I could always give it away if I did not want it.
I immediately began to make a mental list of who I could give the inferior blender to. After all, I had my Vita Mix.
Until the day after I ordered the Juice Lady. My Vita Mix broke. On top of all of that, I was told that they no longer carried the parts that I needed to fix it!!!
Oh, no, now I was really depressed. After all, there was no machine that could possibly compete with my Vita Mix. I did not know what I was going to do.
THANK GOD FOR THE JUICELADY BLENDER!
When my Juice Lady came, I did not even put it together right away. I was suffering from Vita Mix withdrawl. Desperation took over. I took out the Juice Lady blender and was impressed with what it looked like. It was glass and had a large capacity container.
FIRST RUN TEST
I immediately began to test this blender. I filled it to capacity with chunks of pineapple, apples and powdered protein. I ran it for 3 seconds. After all, not even the Vita Mix would pulverize all of that completely in that short amount of time.
I lifted the lid, expecting chunks. Instead, I got a very smooth beautiful liquid. Wow. The ingredients were funneling in a very powerful fashion, similar to the Vita Mix. The short amount of time that this blender handled this stuff without leaving any chunks was something I have never seen in a regular blender.
I blended ice, tomatoes, fruit with skins on it, cake batter, and all kinds of things that I would never normally do to a blender. This beauty actually handled everything I did to it with ease and professionalism. It handles heavy larger loads without straining or having to be coaxed along by stopping and stirring with a spoon.
I was so obsessed with this blender, that I did not use the Juice Lady juicer until a few days later.
WHAT IS THE JUICELADY BLENDER LIKE?
The blender is a very nice streamlined blender. It has a look to it that is pleasing- sort of like the old beehive blenders of years ago. The base is a burnished silver color and smooth, so cleaning is easy.
UNUSUAL FEATURE - SAFETY SWITCH
An interesting feature of this blender is that it has a safety switch that prevents the base from working unless the container is in place. THAT I have not seen in a blender before either.
The container is 6 cups (1 1/2 liters) and is heavy glass. It is designed to really push the contents around quickly and speedily. Yet, it is easy to clean. The cover is a nice flexible black plastic with a measuring cap in it that measures up to 2 oz. There is a hole in it that allows for oil dripping to make mayonnaise or other things that need a slow feed for blending.
SPEEDS AND PROCESSING MODES
There are 14 speeds. There are 7 buttons, but another button (labeled LO/HI)will put you up from speeds 1-7 to speeds 8-14. When you are in the first level(LO) of speeds, the led light will be green. When you are in the upper (HI) level, the light will be red. Whenever you start the blender, the default mode is LO. The other buttons are STOP, ICE, PULSE.
There is a pulse mode. This is usable when the unit is first started up, when it is in ICE mode, or when in the LO speed range. It is like other pulse buttons and will only engage when pressed. When you release it, the pulse stops.
ICE mode will automatically cycle on and off in 5 second intervals until you are out of ice mode.
The buttons are all sealed, so cleaning is EASY. The container does come apart, but we just rinse it out unless we need a deep cleaning.
The manual comes with recipes for some smoothies, soups, and even a hummus recipe.
As I said, I have dealt with all kinds of units especially with Vita Mix and I can heartily say that this Juice Lady blender is right at the top. Although you can not do some of the heavier things the Vita Mix can do, such as grind flour and make sesame butter without any remaining seeds, it CAN do almost anything else that the top blenders can do.
Since getting this wonderful machine, our son, for his electrical training actually worked on and fixed the Vita Mix. So, we have the choice between my Juice Lady and Vita Mix at any time. After all of these years, for the first time, we almost always choose the Juice Lady blender over the Vita Mix- even though they stand next to each other on the counter in easy reach. We resort to the Vita Mix on a few of the really hard core things that we need to do (pulverize hard bread crumbs in a few seconds for example), but for the most part, the Juice Lady is more than sufficient for the job. And we use it at LEAST once a day.
My husband, who had spent many years repairing and dealing with commercial grade appliances, is also very impressed with this unit. I thought NOTHING would ever match the Vita Mix in his eyes either!
Not bad for a free gift, eh?
