A super-spacious top-load washer with lots of extra convenience features. Dyna-Guard® top and lid provides long-lasting durability and the Quiet Pak sound insulation system keeps laundry day quiet.
The Bottom Line: Rub-a-dub-dub I've got suds in my tub
That sickening sound of a washer going bad, nothing like it. Better yet, going to retrieve your clothes for the dryer and finding them happily swimming in their mucky water because it didnt spin or drain. Dang.
Since we were both leaving for an extended weekend for Mothers Day, we didnt bother replacing the lug until we returned. Diane got back a day earlier than I and decided to give it another shot. So, OK, she ended up wringing the clothes out by hand. Id take that option over staying in Ohio an extra day.
The Shopping Trip Its been years since Ive shopped for a major appliance and I geared myself up for the usual shafting and promises and deals and buy this extended warranty tricks. Sears being the only credit card I have left that isnt supporting my daily lifestyle was going to have to be my shopping choice. Besides, Ive had Kenmore appliances for years and have had no trouble with them.
Bonus! It was on sale, free delivery, $10 to haul off the old deadbeat and no interest until 2006 - it was a sale!
Im not the best appliance shopper nor am I the pickiest. Simply give me something that runs, looks decent and doesnt break the bank and Im pleased. With a washing machine you have to take a few more things into account but I dont need a lot of whistles and bells and I certainly dont need something that will wash 16 pairs of jeans at once. First Id have to own 16 pairs of jeans.
My salesclerk was friendly and knowledgeable and didnt waste time trying to pressure me into that extended warranty. She offered, I refused, end of deal. To sweeten the deal, I could get delivery the following day.
As a note of interest, if you intend to keep a valid Sears card, use it once in a while to keep it active. Since mine had been collecting dust for over 3 years I had to start all over again but they were fast and pleasant.
The Machine, I call her Sara Personally, if you dont name your toys I just dont feel like they become a part of your household and often show this by refusing to work again. The old tub came with the house so we didnt have a personal relationship, thus it decided to part ways with us. Keep that in mind when purchasing things.
It comes with 4 booklets - manuals - one of which I tossed immediately. I didnt need instruccioness para la instalacion de la lavadora. I had the delivery guy take care of that. The second manual was the repair parts list. Ill keep it but Im thinking if its broke Im calling someone. I will offer them the booklet when they arrive though. Manual three consists of washer cycle descriptions. This gives you information on water level, temperature, cycle selector, etc. Im 59, if I dont know these things by now .
All the manuals come multi-lingual, surprise. English is now the new second language.
Finally, my friend, the instructions pour lutilisateur. This covers the care and feeding of your new pet, troubleshooting guide, warranty information (one year standard) and what they call protection agreements which is a glorified recount of all the good things that will happen in your life now that you have joined forces with Kenmore and Sears. Whatever.
Now lets discuss Sara, the svelte new miss in our basement. Shes a pretty little thing in a bridal white gown. There are several ways to warm Sara up and even more ways to turn her on.
Water level - three main settings with two stops in between. You got your small, medium and large loads plus a stopoff point between them. So if it is kinda medium but more toward the small side, you can do that or if it is a heavy medium going to heavy, you can do that. Friggin ingenious I tell ya.
Water level - cold/cold/ warm/cold, warm/warm or hot/cold. Guess you cant have a hot/hot.
Cycle settings - Permanent Press, Delicate, Heavy Duty and Normal. In those there are several ranges and times you can run the load. The setting is determined by the type of items you are washing, the length of time you want to run the load and the amount of agitation and spin speed you need. Ive gotta admit, I generally set my washer just about once, on normal, and probably never move the dial again. But just in case I want to, I can.
There is also a prewash and soak cycle. With our nasty water, prewash is almost required and Id never let anything soak. Itd be ruined.
Overall the specs say it is a heavy-duty, 2 speed 4 cycle deal. It measures 27 x 25 x 43. Sara may be ticked off since I gave out her measurements so dont let her know.
Most importantly, shes super quiet.
So props to Sears and Kenmore for another fine piece of machinery. Theyve never done me wrong before and they didnt this time. Props also to the salesclerk who wasnt a pain in the can and the quick and efficient delivery guys. Gotta go, Sara is turned on and I want to hear her whisper to me.
Thanks, Susi
