Only Use For Low-Theft Situations

Pros: Inexpensive, easy to use, no keys needed.

Cons: Not for use in a high-crime area.

The Bottom Line: Good as a supplement to an existing lock due to it's six foot cable length.

This review is based on one year of actual use with this lock. I initially purchased this lock as a supplement to the Kryptonite U-lock that I already had. I needed a way to also lock the front wheel of my bikes whenever I had them in the public eye so to speak. Here are my findings:

Materials Used- This is a six foot vinyl covered 10mm diameter steel cable lock which is coiled for compactness for ease of transportation of the lock. There is an integrated steel housing that has a four-tumbler mechanism with each tumbler having ten positions available for selection.

Appearance- For such an inexpensive lock, it exudes a more upscale look to it than it's actual price would indicate. Overall appearance is black in color with a medium gray color to the vinyl covering over the steel cable. The numbers for the tumbler lock are red and inscribed into a black background. Easily seen by day, but somewhat difficult to read at night.

Quality- I would expect this cable lock to last a very long time. The only way this cable lock would fail is if the steel cable were to rust. There is no play with the tumbler lock mechanism unlike the cheap imitations to the Kryptonite lock that I have used in the past.

Features- Comes with a four-tumbler mechanism that is user resettable. No need for keys. Also, as I said before, the six foot steel cable is covered in vinyl to protect your bike's finish and is coiled for easier transportation.

Ease of Use- Whether actually locking or unlocking the lock. It is very easy to use. No snags or hangups like other locks I have used. The resettable combination feature is also easy to use.

Weight- Approximately .8lbs.

Warranty- Lifetime

Situations for Use- I would not use this as your sole and only lock if you are locking an expensive bike in a high-crime area. It would only take a thief a few seconds to cut through the cable with the proper tools. I would recommend this lock as an adjunct to a more secure and difficult to defeat lock like a U-lock. As I said before, I use this lock to secure my front wheel while a U-lock secures the frame and rear wheel. The only other situation I would use this lock is for the quick lockup for a quick errand. Just make sure that you are not in a high-crime area doing this. Always make sure your bicycle is locked in a highly visible and public area.

Conclusions- If you are looking to supplement an existing lock that you have, you need to look at this lock. This is an inexpensive solution to deter the common thief. If you are looking for only one lock to stop a thief, I would recommend you look elsewhere. Other than that, it is inexpensive and easy to use.
