Pros: very emollient, versatile, moisturizing, nice color, neutral, excellent quality
Cons: rather pricey for drugstore,
The Bottom Line: If you like to do natural looks often with a nude lip- try Pixie- it is excellent quality and versatile color.
When I first saw the line of HIP lip glosses that came out, I first noticed a color called Pixie. In the photos that HIP used to promoted this gloss, the color looked intriguing.
Once I applied it to my lips, the effect seemed different somehow.
WHAT IS PIXIE LIPGLOSS LIKE?
Despite what the photos looked like, Pixie is similar to many other glosses from other lines. The color is a golden tan with a subdued tannish goldish pinkish shimmer- much finer than another color in the line called PRECIOUS.
PIXIE tends to look a bit plain on cooler complexions but it is really nice on warmer complexions. It is a pretty color, but not unique and very sheer. I have made it work for cooler complexions, although I tend to reach for PRECIOUS color first most of the time.
PIXIE lipgloss is part of the HIP line of cosmetics which is a subsidiary of L'OREAL company. They designed this line to be highly pigmented and a bit edgier than the usual L'Oreal cosmetics usually are.
The thought is that this line would be appropriate for women with darker skintones as well as lighter ones.
PIXIE is in a tube with a rounded end. The tube is clear and you can see the color through it. The end is rounded with a small hole. When you squeeze the tube the product comes out and you smear it on your lips.
L'Oreal's site claims that this lipgloss has supercharged polymers which give it striking color. It has jojoba oil in it for lasting comfort and twice the pigmentation for intensity.
It comes in 14 shades.
The tube is .5fl oz/15 ml and the price is about $9 retail.
The cap on the end of the tube is the same color as the contents, making it easy when you want to find a color in your collection.
PIXIE 438 (that is the number of the color) by HIP is a lovely very nude sheer gloss. The fragrance is a citrus type fragrance and is not at all annoying. It is quite pleasant. There is no flavor.
The effect of wearing this gloss is moisturizing and conditioning for the lips. The color lasts quite a while before you have to reapply- at least an hour I have found. With PIXIE, since the color is so sheer and neutral looking, I have often tried to reapply when I did not need to.
When I use lip liner with it, the effect is nicer. It is not too glossy and is not metallic at all, but it is decent coverage despite being sheer.
PIXIE would work on most palettes, but it is not overly impressive. It is just a nice gloss to wear when you really don't care if it is obvious or not. It is lovely with a spice colored liner for a natural look, however.
HIP PIXIE LIPGLOSS is a decent nude type lip gloss that would be very useful especially if you like to do simple and natural looks.
I am also impressed at the quality of this gloss compared with many high end brands that I have tried. Despite its drug store availability, its performance equals or surpasses most other lip glosses I have used from many of the top lines of department store lip glosses.
