Cons: pricey at $38 a tube, only lasted four months
The Bottom Line: With the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer my face has a healthy glow with the no make-up look.
A few years ago I purchased Serious Skin Care Tinted Moisturizer from Home Shopping Network. Since I started buying and selling regularly over a year ago on eBay I scoured the Health and Beauty section for this product to no avail.
During my searches I found Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. I learned this sells for $38.00 for a 1.5 ounce tube. It seemed no one had the details on the ingredients, including the website. I could not take the chance and purchase a cosmetic product without knowing first hand if it contains lanolin, as I am allergic to this and do not need to exacerbate my eczema further, especially on the face!
While at the mall I stopped at the cosmetics counter at Nordstrom to test the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. The tube is brownish tan with the box the same shade. Ingredients are only listed on the box and lanolin is not included. There are seven shades to choose from, but for my skin tone Nude was the only choice.
There are tips on the website indicating you should mix two shades to obtain a perfect match, thus lighter for summer and darker for winter. This is touted as a tinted moisturizer to wear in lieu of foundation. However I never did achieve these results and always used foundation as well. " Mixing the Tinted Moisturizer with your regular foundation also works as the Tint boosts the color of your liquid foundation." I just found this under the tips on the website. This is probably what I do, but I apply the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer first and wait about five minutes before the foundation is administered.
I found that in the throes of summer heat in August with the temperatures surpassing 95+ in the Valley region of Los Angeles I would need another application. I had an eczema rash on my forehead, which was the area I focused on reappplying later in the day. I also noticed differences from the foundation I utilized.
During the intense summer heat I was wearing Maybelline EverFresh Makeup. For the past month I have utilized CoverGirl Tru-Blend Make-up. What a difference the CoverGirl Tru-Blend Make-up made when combined with the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. They blended so well it just meshed nicer for an overall glow that was not possible with the other foundation.
Now I have run out of both the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer and the CoverGirl Tru-Blend Make-up. I made the purchase at Nordstrom in early June, thanks to the surprise Income tax refund I decided to stop wasting time bidding on this at eBay, plus I prefer to buy cosmetics with the box. It seemed that the sellers of this product over there do not have the box and that seems fishy to me.
It just so happened that I found the Serious Skin Care Tinted Moisturizer at eBay so I made the purchase in the Shell shade. This was kept in my cosmetic case for using at the 24 Hour Fitness. Comparing these two lines of Tinted Moisturizer it was evident that Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer is a creamy texture. It really seems more like a foundation, where the other brand is very runny and reminds me of the MAC Face and Body Foundation foundation I tried the previous summer and disliked.
The shades available for the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer are:
Porcelain - fair skin tones Nude - fair to light Sand - a vanilla beige - light to medium Fawn - shell beige - medium with pink tones Almond - golden beige - medium skin tones Tan - sunset beige - medium to dark skin tones Walnut - deep bronze - dark skin tones
The only shade other than Nude I would attempt to try is the almond. The sand and fawn are too brownish beige. This is also 20 SPF. Tinted moisturizer is like a hint of color added to your moisturizer, which is why I chose Nude and am happy with the overall look to my face and feel on my skin.
The Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer is easy to apply, feels soft and silky to the skin. It is applied using fingertips. While I was at the counter at Nordstrom the cosmetician used a brush to apply. I liked this better than a cotton ball used at other counters.
A 1.5 ounce tube will last from 4-5 months, probably longer now that fall is here and less coverage is needed for this season. This has an anti-oxidant complex that protects the skin. The active ingredients are listed on the back of the tube, Octyl Methoxycinnamate, Menthyl Anthranilate.
The sticker price was placed directly over the ingredients, so the only ones I can see and post are - Cetearyl Alcohol, Kalaya Oil, Acetate (Vitamin E), Vitamin C, Castor Oil, Iron Oxides, Purified Water, Cyclomethicone.
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer is Dermatologist tested and not tested on animals. You do not have the caked on look, this is streak free, did not add much shine to my face, more of a glow. I read somewhere online that Sarah Jessica Parker attributes her healthy glow to the Nude shade of the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer as well.
I even used this a few times as an under eye concealer when the skin looked lighter in color and needed a boost. There were no breakouts associated with using the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. It worked well on keeping my rash area covered up with a more healthy look.
The tube is easy to grasp with one hand and remove the twist-off cap in one twist. The contents are squeezed through the opening. Although once you get to the end of the tube you will need to shake it a bit to obtain the remaining droplets. I found that this worked just as well at the bottom of the tube as it did from when first purchased months ago.
This is a tinted moisturizer that works on all skin-types and colors. The price is a bit steep, but I used it all compared to tossing out the Mac Face and Body Foundation and using the Serious Skin Care Tinted Moisturizer infrequently.
I do plan on purchasing another tube in the next week.
