This is a quaint little french restaurant located several blocks off Broadway. It's a nice place to go on a special occasion, especially if you're going out to see a show. It's a bit pricey, but the service is wonderful, atmosphere fabulous, and food exquisite. If you feel like splurging a bit, this is the place to go.
It's a little crowded. The tables are quite close together, more so in the restaurant part than the garden. (Request to sit in the garden area. It's much nicer.) Make sure you have reservations-- The place was absolutely packed. There's not much privacy, either... The two women at the table next to us listened to a good deal of my friend & my conversation. Also, when we were served, someone actually got up and asked us what we were eating.
Which leads us to the food. The presentation is absolutely marvelous. You order something, then see what someone else ordered and are just compelled to change your choice. I had the penne in a four cheese sauce, which was very good. Cindy, the friend I went with, had some sort of scallops and lentils. Everything looked and sounded so good. From steak to the pasta I had, it was a tough choice.
I love bread. As soon as you sit down, you're served fresh baked french bread, which is phenomenal. And, be sure to save room for dessert. You'll have a choice of eight or so decadent desserts. I had some sort of caramel and chocolate mousse while Cindy had this chocolate and bing cherry thing. They were both AWESOME, though I must admit that Cindy's choice was better than mine.
They have a wide selection of wines, spirits and beer. I ventured into the NY world of microbrewery and had a Brooklyn Pale Ale, which was terrific! Of course, they have Guinness and some domestics.
Finally, the service was impeccable. We had a waiter named Prescott, and he was awesome. The food came out quickly and was piping hot. Our water glasses stayed filled. It was just an all-around great dining experience.
As I said before, this is a nice place to go on a special occasion. There isn't a huge selection of entrees, so it may get a little boring if you go there repeatedly... and a little costly.
