I had an old Lexmark Multi-Function printer in my home office that doesn't have any networking functionality (USB only), and since my computer and my phone plug are pretty far away, so I usually hook it up to my computer and when I had to send fax, I had to unhook the printer and physically bring it to the phone plug, plug it in and send fax, and have to move it back after I am done, which is really a pain in the butt. I tried to have it setup through wireless print servers, and while I can usually print without any hassle using the print server, I couldn't get the scanner to work properly through the print server, so that brought me back to square one, as I had to physically move it around to do different things.
I decided to get a new Multi-Function printer with built in wireless adapter, and there are a lot of different models on the market, I opted for the Lexmark S405, as it has both the features and are in the price range I was looking for. Setting up the printer is a breeze, you'll have to hook it up directly to the computer at first to set up the wireless connection, and the CD that came with the printer basically walk you through the whole process and once the wireless connection is established, you can move the printer to wherever you want (as long as it can connect to your local LAN via wireless), and any additional computer that need to access the printer, you just have to run the CD on it and it's all set! And another great thing about the printer is that it will turn itself off after some time, and when you need to print, you don't have to turn it back on, you just send the document, and it will wake up and print! So much easier than the older printers I have.
I have been using this printer for over 2 months, and I have scanned, copied, and printed a bunch of documents and pictures, and I haven't had the need to change the ink cartridges yet, so I think the ink usage is acceptable, since the cartridges are really expensive, so it's nice to know that it's not a ink guzzler! And I think for the price, the S405 offers ease of use and a lot of functionality, definitely recommended!
