Why Choose "Little Smart Storytime Rhymes" for your baby?
Nov 23, 2000
Pros: Great learning device, stimulating, helps develop motor skills!
Cons: None for me!
I have to admit that when I first saw this book, I fell in love with it! It has some of my favorite rhymes and the music it plays is very cheerful and happy! As most of you know, I have a granddaughter Brooklyn who just turned thirteen months of age. She loves music and likes for me to read to her. So when I saw this book, I knew it would be hit with her!
This could be your baby's first book since it is recommended for ages six months and up. I have to admit I have already purchased several story books for Brooklyn, but nothing quite like this! This book is filled with nursery rhymes and short melodies that would catch most children's attention! It is made of a hard plastic material with very bright colors including a candy apple red, a royal blue shade, a bright sunny yellow hue and a rich kelly green color. This plastic book makes it very easy to clean! It also has big tabs on the pages so your child can easily turn them.
There is a yellow plastic strap attached to the top of the book which makes a very easy to carry handle! This yellow plastic strap can attach to a car seat or a stroller, so that your baby will not be dropping it a lot! This book also has an automatic shut-off that preserves the life of your batteries. It requires two AAA batteries which are included with the book. These batteries are safely secured that can only be replaced when an adult removes the fastener!
What makes this book different?
This book is designed to encourage your child to role play. It introduces six favorite nursery rhymes. It even has cheerful melodies that play when you push the correct arrow pointing to the page that you are reading. The words are also printed on each page with fairly large bold letters to encourage your child to recognize words! They even have bold black numbers at the bottom of each page, to help your child learn what page they are on and also how to count! This also helps their language skills by using the rhyming sounds.
This books also helps to develop motor skills by having easy to turn pages that improve their hand-eye coordination. And the colorful arrow buttons improves their fine motor skills.
Since this book is easy for a child to use, it allows them to explore and discover the different tunes on their own. They have six different melodies that they can play on their own by just pushing a brightly colored arrow!
Auditory stimulation is provided by the melodies, the sounds of the nursery rhymes and the cute little sayings they have before each rhyme.
They are visually stimulated by the wonderful colors in the pictures which are very bright and cheerful to the eyes!
The tactile stimulation comes from using the fun-to-turn pages with their large colorful tabs.
When you first open up this book it says "Story Time!" and plays part of "Mary Had A Little Lamb". There is also a bold number 1 in the lower left hand of the page. This can help your child with his/her numbers. Then you press the yellow arrow facing this page and the book says "Lambs go baa, baa". Then when you press the same arrow the second time, it plays part of the melody. There you have a wonderful nursery rhyme that is cheerfully colored and has the pictures and words to the nursery rhyme on the same page which is "Mary Had A Little Lamb."
Then there is a green arrow that points to the page numbered 2in the lower right hand corner. When you first press this green arrow, it tells you to "clap your hands". The second time you push the green arrow, it plays part of the melody to "Pat-a-Cake". The pictures on this page show two children holding up their hands and clapping. As you can guess, this nursery rhyme is "Pat-a-Cake"!
By using the kelly green tab, your baby can turn the book to the next page. The first thing you hear is a voice that says "Let's Sing" Then when you push the yellow arrow pointing to the page with the number 3, it says "pigs go oink, oink!". When you push the arrow the second time it plays a melody. The rhyme on this page is called "This Little Pig went to Market!"
The green arrow points to the number page 4 which is located in the lower right hand corner. It plays a melody for the nursery rhyme "Hickory Dickory Dock".When you push the green arrow a second time, it says "clocks go tick-tock,tick-tock!
Then there is a bright yellow tab that your baby can use to turn the page. The book says "Dance together" after you turn the page. This page has number 5 in the lower left hand page. When you push the yellow page arrow pointing to this page it says "Hey, Diddle Diddle" and the little girl laughs. When you push the yellow arrow a second time it plays a melody.
The last page has a number 6 in the lower right hand corner of the page. When you push the green arrow it says "Make a Wish!". When you push the green arrow a second time, it plays a melody of the nursery rhyme "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.!
After you have read the last page and shut the book, it says "The End"! This is a very cute and novel book. The cute and funny scenes on each page makes it more enjoyable for your child! Although this book does not sing the entire melody of each nursery rhyme, it helps your child to associate certain songs with each rhyme. I really do think that this is a wonderful gift for any new or young reader! It is very economical and costs only #12.97 at our local Walmart's! There is also a great children's set of four CDs that have been advertised on our local television station, that has over a hundred of young children's favorite nursery rhymes and songs. This would be a great extra gift to go along with this Storytime Rhymes book! Thank you for reading and I hope that you have a great day shopping, if you venture out for the early bird sales on the day after Thanksgiving! Who knows, you may run into my daughter, Heather and me!
