How To Encourage Young Artists!

Pros: Sturdy, economical,easy to use and clean

Cons: Takes up more room than a standard chalkboard!

I have been researching the Little Tikes Studio Design Easel for several months to give to our granddaughter Brooklyn for Christmas! I noticed that J C Penney's Christmas catalog had it listed for $39.99. You could also purchase the art set with 87 pieces for $10.00, but it was free if you ordered the easel. Then I was shopping at Ames Store and saw the purple and yellow easel for $19.99! At this low price, I felt it was a great gift and very economical. It did not come with any paper or art supplies, but I purchased these items at our dollar store.

Some of the features that I like in this easel is that it is sturdy and lightweight. It also folds and can easily be stored under a bed. I liked the vivid colors of purple with two detachable yellow trays. These yellow storage bins just snap into place and are great to hold chalk, erasers and paint supplies. The easel is 44 inches high and is made of a durable plastic with round corners for a child's safety. This easel requires adult assembly by pulling the stand back over the chalk board and it snaps into place. The chalk board is not made of slate, but it has a dry-eraser board that is easy to wipe clean. The yellow bins can easily be removed for storage and cleaning.

The main reason I chose this style of easel was that Brooklyn could draw with the chalk and she was tall enough to reach the board. Since her father is a talented artist, I am hoping that we can stimulate her interest in art and creative expression. There is also a large clip above the chalkboard where you can place drawing paper or paper for finger painting. The chalkboard is 19 inches wide and 20 inches tall. So there is a lot of space for drawing and writing.

I remember when I was young and I had a small chalkboard. I use to pretend that I was a teacher and I would write on it. I am hoping that Brooklyn will want to play school with this easel and learn to write her ABC's and her numbers on this board! This easel can be used by anyone in the family and even as a message board! One of my favorite games to play on it is hangman. You are only as limited as your imagination!
