Sounds great on paper, but less so in real life...

In theory, this sounds really interesting... a very small mouse in the shape of a cube, and it automatically turns into a presentation remote just by picking it up. That's why I selected the Logitech Cube Mouse from Amazon Vine when it came up on my list of selections. After trying it out for a bit, I've decided that it's more interesting than practical. I don't see myself changing the contents of my laptop bag because of this item.
First off, the Cube Mouse is small... really small. I'm short with small hands, and I could only go for about 30 minutes before I needed some relief from the hand cramps. I could use it as a wireless mouse if I had to, but it would be far from my first option. On top of that, there's a bit of a learning curve when it comes to trying to figure out what to "press" or "stroke" to get something to happen. I get that the smooth surface is the selling point, but it's just not very intuitive when you start using it.
The presenter remote is the main selling point, in my opinion. In that area, it's adequate, but not exceptional. I have three or four other dedicated remotes that have far more features and that are much easier to use than this one. Unless I had practiced quite a bit with this mouse, I'm not sure I'd feel overly comfortable using it for a critical presentation. Even then, I'd probably spend more time thinking about the mouse than what I'm saying.
I'll hand it to Logitech for trying to combine two things (mouse and remote) into a single multi-use device. On paper, the appeal is undeniable. But in reality (for me), it seems that in trying to meet the needs of two specific use cases in a single piece of hardware, they've missed both. The weight and "inconvenience" of carrying an actual mouse and an actual remote is pretty minimal, and I'd prefer have a best-of-breed for each of them separately than have a single item that's just mediocre.
