Got a Fireplace? Then you need this!

Pros: Dustless and the fact you can clean filter without opening.

Cons: Cost not to cheap, hose could get a little to warm.

The Bottom Line: Highly recommend for the fact that you will not have to move your log rack around anymore or sweep up the ashes.

How many times have you had to bend over and try to sweep out you fireplace embers and ashes? Well, the time has come that you stop doing that. This particular shop vac will relieve all that moving of the wood rack and back and knee pain and only costs around $200.00. You can usually get one of these at any that sells fireplaces. The first thing that you need to know is not to freak out when you first open the box. Why? You ask. When you first look in the box all you will see is the vacuum. The metal hose and manual and registration card are inside the canister. There also should be a nozzle and a shaker rack plus a filter bag located in the bottom of the canister. You might want to save the box, and tape your receipt to your manual. Just in case there is something wrong with it.

There are a few features that are real nice. There is a double filter system, which allows you to do wood stoves, pellet stoves, and fireplaces without emitting dust.

The primary and secondary filter can be cleaned without removing the lid. Agitating the shaker basket located the two filters allows this to happen.

The primary filter is fire retardant.

The secondary filter can trap sub-micron particles that are allowed through main filter.

The metal hose will give you greater flexibility and will cold to warm ash.

The metal nozzle allows ash to be removed and larger particles to be left behind

The Cheetah II has a 3 gallon capacity. Plus it has a very limited 1 years warranty. This applies only to the original buyer and only to the homeowner. If you do need to have this fixed, you have to pack the whole thing up and send it off to the repair center. The total unit is not very heavy so just about anyone can lift it. Even a child. But I would not advise that because the hose is metal and you might have sucked up some hot embers and the hose might be a little warm. The hose might come in contact with child and leave a red mark, I don't think this could do any damage but why take the chance.

The main thing to remember about this vacuum is that it is not a regular one. You can only use it for ashes. If you do use it for regular cleaning you might leave flammable materials inside and the results could be very bad. This should be used for ash only. This vacuum is not intended for large particles. If you pick up any large pieces the hose will clog up very fast. You don't have to worry about dumping the ash because it is removed from the bottom. Since the hose is made of Aluminum it will handle some warm embers and the heat will transfer rapidly. If the hose is to warm to hold you are removing materials that are to warm.

If you don't have any suction there could be a problem with a clogged hose or there might be a crust that has formed on the outside of the filter bag , this will not let the vacuum breathe properly. If this happens you will have to remove the brass nipple and cap from the top of the lid and then raise the metal rod about 1/2" rock it from side to side. This will cause the ash that has collected on the side of the bag to fall off.

A very important note about the filter is that you CANNOT wash it. If you do you will wash the special coating off. This finish will be removed and will not operate properly. It will probably take you a bit to fill this up. But, after 25 - 30 fill ups you need to change the filter.

You have a primary filter but you need to install the secondary filter. First you place your secondary filter over the filter support cage and attach with a 7" hose clamp there are springs to compress while you are putting this on.. Then install the shaker basket assembly. Place the shaker basket rod in the brass hole. The basket should rest on top of the filter. Then place the primary filter over the shaker basket and around the raised lid (lip is 1" from the edge of the lid) attach with large 10" hose clamp. Keeping in mind that the filter is down against the motor lid when attaching the clamp. Plus making sure that the white finish side of the filter is facing the outside.

Then from the top side screw the brass rod cover finger tight only.
Next place the lid on top of the canister using the 3 lid clamps. Just latch them and pull in the downward motion. Then all that is left is to connect the hose. Connect it to the side of the canister, this will be a snug fit. Slide the metal nozzle into the other end with the crimped end out. Never use this hose without the nozzle attached. Now you are ready to start.

This vacuum has been designed with safety in mind. It has a fire resistant double filter, a double filtering system, you can clean filters without opening up system, does not cough out ashes when you start it up, been in business 1988, it has a 6 amp. motor , 2300 rpm. Plus the most important thing made in the good old USA.
