Ain't No Magic In Them There Wipes.

When we remodeled our kitchen, we were so happy with the stainless steel appliances that we did not realize what we were in for. That was the only thing that was on our mind when we purchased these type appliances. We had heard that there was a problem with fingerprints from our friends but we did not get discouraged. After we installed these appliances the first thing that we noticed is that we did not have anything to clean them with. We had stainless steel appliances and fingerprints everywhere. The appliances looked great but not with the fingerprints all over them. It is a constant battle to keep them free of these prints unless you are trying to find the culprit who left them on your new appliances.

This is when we started on the great stainless steel cleaner adventure. We started by purchasing a whole case of these wipes, they seemed like the way to go. This was supposed to be easy, just simply wipe and let dry but, we were soon to be disappointed. Even though, they were not that expensive since we bought them by the case (6 in a box). We found them at Lowe's for only 5.99 each and $29.99 per each box. Inside of each of these plastic containers there were 30 pre-moistened wipes, each wipe is wet with a stainless steel cleaner of type on them not saturated with it but lightly scented.

You get 30 sheets that are individually pre-moistened with (Polydimethylsiloxanes) which are an irritant to the eye, and if you get any in your eye, you need to flush your eye out. Inside of each container you will receive thirty wipes that are attached in the shape of a roll. Each wipe is connected together, and when you pull out the first one on the inside of the top of the container and when you pull on the top one, the top edge will have a star shaped hole in it to store the last sheet and help separate each wipe easily.

When we pulled the first one out of the center of the roll and out of the container, it had a very aromatic smell about the wipe. These were supposed to leave a streak free shine, but that was exactly what we got. After the surface was dried all we saw was a lot of fingerprints and streaks. We continued to rub but the fingerprints still stayed in place and did not disappear like they advertised that this would.

The important thing that you need to know is that a lot of appliances are made with a brushed metal surface and it will look like it has a right to left grain to it. This is the way that you should rub your appliance, and that is the way of the grain. Then allow the surface to dry and then you are supposed to be finished.

I am still looking for that perfect illusive stainless steel cleaner. My adventure will never end until all of the fingerprints are gone. I am presently using an aerosol spray even though I have heard that you can use vinegar and water mixture to remove all of the finger prints. This only partially does the job. The other way that I have found to clean the appliances, is since the appliances are so cold, I have occasionally caught my dogs licking the surface but, even though this cleans the surface pretty well, their tongues are not streak free.
